Call me pessimistic, but I'm not expecting much from the Blazers this season. When they struggle (particularly as I envision them struggling - still playing vets at the expense of intriguing young players), my interest in the NBA declines. It helps if there's a backup team to root for that has the following qualifications: (1) Either it has a genuine shot at the title, or it has at least one fantastically entertaining player (2) It's not the Lakers I'm guessing I'm not alone in this. What's your backup team?
I pick the Grizzlies, because (a) they play a very entertaining style, (b) they've consistently drafted players I've really wanted in the past few drafts, (c) Ja is pretty fun, (d) They're a small market team that doesn't act all entitled.
At the moment, Toronto. Enjoy their roster construction, have a ton of respect for Ujiri, and still want to see Trent succeed.
Honestly, it is the teams that play entertaining basketball or specific players I like. I enjoy teams that share the ball a lot, so the Warriors are fun to watch. The Heat are as well. But I do not really "root" for anyone other than good basketball.
It’s really Blazers or nothing because I find the NBA pretty unwatchable for the most part until the playoffs. I do play in a fantasy league where we draft teams (not players) over 15 different sports, so I’ll follow whichever teams I have there. This year it’s the Suns and Nets.
I'm a huge fan of the game and catch a lot of other teams and value the entertainment they can bring. Certain story lines or players can make me want to watch one team more than another in any given season or at some point during that season. I tend to find a rooting interest during games but overall I don't root for any team in this league that isn't the Blazers. Fuck em all!!!
They are also the ones who screwed us royally in the Darius Miles situation. Some "gods" may forgive - I sure as hell don't!
Celtics have actually always been my team in the East. I also admired the Spurs when they were good. I hate the Lakers and Warriors
