HBO Boxing's Jim Lampley has been an outspoken critic of MMA for years. He has said that MMA fighters aren't real athletes and that MMA is a glorified bar fight without skill. When the UFC was close to securing a television deal with HBO, one that Dana White reportedly scuttled due to HBO wanting to produce the events themselves (at least in part), Lampley amped-up his criticism of MMA in an effort to stave-off what he saw as a threat to boxing. Lampley has been criticized in the past for towing his company line, even to the point where he would sound biased towards the company fighter in HBO broadcasts. Recently Lampley had a chat with Toro Magazine (what? I don't know either) in which he was able to articulate some of the complaints he has about MMA, or more specifically how MMA/The UFC has distinguished itself from boxing. Seems like he's softening up a bit--but maybe that is only because he isn't speaking directly to his target audience of boxing fanatics.
The self-professed MMA fan (SALVATORE DIFALCO) who knows so much about every kind of MMA fighter, except the kind that isn't in the UFC, doesn't seem to have any articles on MMA on that website. I did find this video discussing whether or not MMA is a fad, though... http://toromagazine.com/?channel=118&t=56&n=166
