Now i don't want to sound like one of those crazy ass fans who expements their star players for criticism but i must Swift so far hasn't shown us anything. As you already have seen he's not rebounding or scoring and just does nothing for ages. So will he ever prove us wrong? does he have what it takes? So far i am questioning wheather he deserves the MLE.But overall the whole team has been a discrace so far. I have hope that things will turnaround.
He just played a very good game against Sacremento. 11 points, 3 blocks, 3 steals and he was involved in some very important plays down the stretch.
if he dont what you gonna do about it? we will trade him if that happens, and that MLE can't get you much but a one dimensional role player (that could turn out as a bust). ok i know i am exaggerating, but I know Swift is talented, and he, Yao, T-Mac, and Sura can bring us home a ring. To bad we will have to wait next year for this (unless sura bounces back quickly). Swift has potential.
during the sacto game he was imo showing some good skill... I like the lineup in the end of that game... Yao, Tmac,Swift, Head, DA; the best lineup i think they can use.

Anyways, he had a fine showing last night with 11 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 blocks. I'd be happy with that anyday. However, the problem isn't if he's going to show up, but if he's going to keep showing up consistently. This has been a problem for him since Memphis where he plays like an All Star one game but disappears in the next. And so far, he isn't exactly making a new name for himself. Plus, I'm still a bit disappointed with his rebounding, even when he has his good nights so I think he really needs to pick that up.
Swift does have the potential to be a good athlete, only as a competitor in Olympic high jump. jajaja j/k But he really disappoint a bunch of fans thus far who previously held a much higher anticipation on him, to partake of the defensive pressures on Yao.
Swift, even while playing below expectations, has been better than Howard. If we got rid of him and didn't get a good PF in return, that would be an extremely stupid move. With Howard on the court so far this season, the Rockets have been absolutely anemic offensively. I think we should just start Swift and play him 30+ minutes a game. Most players, in general, play better with longer stretches on the court. The Swift/Yao combination has been much more effective than Howard/Yao.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I think everyone in this thread has the wrong impression of Swift, and I'm not saying that to bash a player that I think will be a future Rocket or start a flame war After four years of watching him in Memphis, I have to say that almost all of what Trip said is true. He was picked way too high out of college because his athleticism was enough to intrigue scouts in workouts and give him that "potential" label. I honestly feel that he would not have even been a lottery pick if he stayed in college another year. When he works hard and gives it his all, he can be an absolute beast. I loved going to games and see him catch alley-oops or swat shots into the stands. Realistically though, he's the type of player that will give you back to back 30/15 nights and then put up 4/2 for a month. That's because his main problem, as noted by Trip, is his work ethic. I've never seen a player so unmotivated, and I honestly don't think it's anything you can fix. Last year was his contract year and he only put up a quiet 10/5, so think how he'll play with a thick, six year contract. He's even on the record for saying that some night's he just doesn't feel like playing so he doesn't give it his all. He's a real fan favorite, and he can easily put together a highlight reel like the one posted above. However, you have to realize that he's going to give you an alley-oop like that or block a shot like that, but then he'll disappear for the rest of the game. He's not going to be able to play Center for the Rockets, and I don't think he has the post moves to start at Power Forward. He really gets by on his athleticism more than a player should be a allowed to, and he's a weak defender. If I had to sum up Stromile Swift's game in one word, it'd be 'laziness', and that's not something you want on your team. It's not just a minor flaw like poor ball handling or a faulty jumper. When you can't work, you can't win.</div> ^ That post was by me. And you guys all bashed me for it. That's right. Now look whose team is 2nd in the West and whose team is 2nd to last in the West. It's the Stromile Effect; teams just can't win with Swift. Get rid of him while you still can.
I wasn't impressed with Swift at all last night. He did play with energy and held his own defensively, but he's a pain to watch on offense if you take away the dunks. His dunking mentality is so huge that he would go up in the air looking for a dunk, then change position halfway in the air when he realizes he doesn't have space for the dunk. It results in a missed floater. Also, he cannot hit the mid range J at the consistency that Howard does. I'd still like to see Howard start.

I'd still like to see Howard start.</div> Here's the shot breakdown for both, as shown on 82games.com: <font face=""Courier New"">Howard: Jump shots (67% of attempts): 37.1 fg% Inside shots (33% of attempts): 51.1 fg% - non dunks (31% of attempts): 52.3 fg% - dunks (1% of attempts): 100 fg% Per game: 3.3/8.0 field goals made (41.7%) and 0.8 free throws made Swift: Jump shots (38% of attempts): 35.4 fg% Inside shots (62% of attempts): 56.4 fg% - non dunks (39% of attempts): 42.9 fg% - dunks (21% of attempts): 81.5 fg% Per game: 3.4/7.0 field goals made (48.4%) and 2.1 free throws made </font> Howard shoots a lot more jumpers, but his accuracy has been scarcely better than Swift's so far this season. Howard's accuracy in close is actually pretty decent (particularly considering that 25% of those non dunk attempts inside were blocked!). Howard's role this season on offense has been as a spot-up jump shooter, even though his effectiveness in this capacity is questionable. Because he doesn't get to free-throw line very often, he needs to hit a high percentage of those mid-range jumpers for him to be an asset offensively. At the very least he should shoot above 45% on them. Swift, on the other hand, shows that he doesn't have nearly as polished an inside game (43% inside on non-dunks is poor). But so many of his shots are relatively high-percentage dunks that it makes up for it. Overall, Swift is a much more efficient scorer from the field. Add to this that he does a good job drawing fouls and getting to the line and that he's actually been a slightly better offensive rebounder. Plus, with Swift on the court, the Rockets score 102.9 points per 100 possessions. With Howard on the court, the Rockets score only 94.1 points per 100 possessions. Taking all this into account, Swift is overall a much more effective offensive player. That's not saying much since Howard has been terrible on offense, but there it is.
In my opinion Swift needs to start. I think Stromile Swift plays better with Yao and McGrady. They take the pressure off Swift and allow him to get easy shots. When Swift doesn't have Yao or TMac he has to rely on lost post moves to score, and right now his moves aren't producing points. I think that JVG needs to start Swift for atleast 1 game. Swift may be better off starting, but we'll never know for sure if JVG never gives him the opportunity.

With the Rockets getting off to all the poor starts, and Howard being very unproductive, Swift at least deserves a chance to show what he can do in the starting lineup. Right now, Swift looks to be getting the majority of the minutes in the second and fourth quarters, but some players just play better when they start versus coming off the bench.

Two words: clueless and inconsistent. That's all what he is. I would bet he is gonna disappear again in the next game. I hope i will be wrong this time.
I like Swift and I give him the whole season before we see what he's truly capable of...he's just now starting to grasp the defensive schemes but I love his aggressiveness and he's really stronger on defense...he's been a consistent contributor the past few games and I see Howard's production decreasing dramatically...

We all know that Swift is inconsistent as hell and the fourth quarter might just be the good part of the inconsistency. He just can't keep up his good play for a long period of time.
it just seems to me that swift is not a very intelligent person, let alone an intelligent bball player. i think he should've played football
