http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122351645893317913.html An interesting article that turned out not to be so much about how the media supports Sen. Obama, but rather why. They share his worldview.
Opinion, nothing more, and completely without substantiation. Isn't it a bit ironic to wave this rabid anti-Obama screeching, published in the Wall Street Journal, as evidence of pro-Obama media bias? barfo
Isn't it ironic that you'd use the motto of Dartmouth, one of the liberal, elitist, ivory tower schools, to describe the Wall Street Journal's heroic break from the left-wing conspiracy of the media?
You believe Dartmouth to be liberal? I'd re-examine that comment. In fact, beginning in the 80s, Dartmouth has been known as one of the most right-wing student bodies around. Ever hear of the Dartmouth Review?
I think most Americans fared pretty well the last time we had a president who excelled at foreign relations. I see nothing wrong with aspiring to work with our allies the same way we did during the Clinton administration. We live in a global society with global issues. Embracing the Bush isolationist policy and this whole "with us or against us" bravado never made any sense to me. -Pop
Not a comment on Dartmouth directly, but universities, and Ivy League even moreso, are always alleged by conservatives to be left-wing breeding grounds of America-hating. I've never heard Dartmouth being excepted from that. The student body may tilt right to you...do you feel the faculty does, too? That's generally the thrust of conservative ire with the university system.
Please don't ask me to speak for any group of which I'm not a part. I happen to think for myself. If you want to talk to someone who toes the party line, there are plenty of people on this board.
Please read more carefully. I didn't attribute the view to you. I explained why I attributed the "liberal, elitist, ivory tower" labels to Dartmouth in response to your questioning me about it. In addition, you, yourself, HAVE espoused that view, or something similar...you described yourself once as being the "typical America-hating college student" before entering the real world, living in Europe and realizing how awful things outside the US are.
I'm merely saying that if you believe Dartmouth to be a "liberal" place, then spend more time at Everything But The Anchovies. It's not. It's student body makeup is different than any other Ivy League school.
Dartmouth's political atmosphere is pretty evenly matched. While the social climate of the student body might be liberal, the minority conservative view has a much bigger "voice." It ends up evening out. The standard conservative bastion has really come down over the years. The DRFC has grown to be more new school over the years starting from the early 2000's, and while many Review writers still end up pledging the traditional conservative house, Phi Delta Alpha, the house itself has really become much more liberal since the '08's pledge 3 years ago. Today the Review really stands out on it's own (but does so quite well). Although SAE is still composed of douchebags (Sorry, Tim!)
That's fine....I believe you, but my impression is that schools are considered "liberal" based on the faculty, not the student body.
Yup. So, to get back to my original point, isn't it ironic that you used the motto of an elitist, liberal school to describe a media source that ironically is talking about how biased the media is to the left?
