Since 2008 when the economic recession hit the United States, sports betting enthusiasts in small blue collar cities such as Buffalo and Detroit, have had little to cheer about. During the 2008 season, Buffalo finished dead last in their division, with an unimpressive seven and nine record, while Detroit became the first city in NFL history, to house a team that lost all 16 games of the regular season. For most fishing games enthusiasts, especially in a recession, they may have given up on their teams, after such dismal records. However, for the Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions, they each have the most loyal fan bases in the NFL, with both teams sitting at three and zero to start the 2011 season. Today we wonder, which team has been the bigger revelation? On paper, NFL betting lines enthusiasts would think, that the Detroit Lions undefeated stretch to open this season has been the bigger surprise between them and Buffalo. Yet, it is important to consider, that while Detroit lost all 16 games of the 2008 season, Buffalo Bills fans had to suffer through losing four straight Super Bowls to open up the 1990s. Meaning to say, if anyone knows about suffering it is the Buffalo Bills. Another issue basing revelations on paper provides, is that some teams appear fantastic while others not so much. For example, looking at the Detroit Lions this season, fans can see that the team was ready to take their game to the next level. The roster this year consists of franchise quarterback Matthew Stafford, running back Jahvid Best, wide receivers Nate Burleson and Calvin Johnson, and defensive backs Nick Fairley and Ndamukong Suh. With a core group such as the aforementioned six players, only bad coaching could cause the team to fumble out of the gate. At the same time, if you had made an NFL pick on the Buffalo Bills to win the Super Bowl this year, we would have called you crazy. Buffalo plays in the ever daunting AFC East which also consists of the New York Jets, New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins. Entering this season, many people we included, felt that Buffalo had fourth place in the division locked down, because they were sticking with underachieving over hyped quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and an over the hill Fred Jackson. So we all thought. Instead, the Buffalo Bills under the guidance of Fitzpatrick and Jackson and wide receivers Stevie Johnson and David Nelson, have pulled upset after upset. The Bills ability to come back two weeks in a row from 21 point deficits has been incredible to watch. Last week, they were down 21 to 3 at half time, and pulled off a last minute victory over a decent Oakland Raiders team. This week, the Bills, gave their fans an emotional high, when they came back from being down to 21 nothing to New England, only to win the game 34 – 31 on a last minute field goal. Buffalo thus far has been the biggest revelation as they have given their fans hope, as huge underdogs.
Well, the media was talking about one team in the off-season, and Buffalo has New England and the NY Jets in the division.
