As you know, the Warriors have always been at the threshold of playoff contention. And in Webber's rookie year we made it. We had a lot of promise after that but some monkey gave him a clause to opt out of his contract after his rookie season. It has never been the same. Before and since then, the Warriors have given away Hall of Fame worthy players and even a rookie of the year. They've let Webber leave as well as Gugs. And as a long time Warrior fan it's kinda sad. So my question is..... Which of the players that the Warriors have given away do you think we shouldn't have?
This is a tough one, like you said, we have let many go. Its hard to say that letting Webber go was a horrible mistake, he had a horrible attitude and all he did was whine after Spreewell was traded after choking the coach. He didn't want to be here and there is no room in a locker room for that.
I think Webber was gone before the Choking incident... What gets me is that this all happened right after Cohen bought the team. I think the question should originally be... SHOULD THE WARRIORS HAVE BROKEN UP RUN TMC? I think all the problems started there. Nellie had a team that, IMO, was better then what he has now in Dallas. However, the team wasn't together long enough to gauge how good they could have been. But even after the Billy Owens accident, the W's struggled with chemistry. Webber didn't get along with Nellie, Hardaway didn't get along with Spree, Mullin was stuck on a team that didn't get along with each other, and trading Billy Owens for Rony Seikaly didn't help the team much, in fact it cut an even deeper rift between Spree and Webb with the rest of the players. Another mistake was bad coaching timing. The W's decided to get rid of Webb instead of Nellie, then fired Nellie. After that they hired Adelman who is now Webb's coach and they seem to have a very healthy relationship. Not only have the W's let go of some successful players, they also had a coaching staff that is currently very successful, i.e. Nellie in Big D and Popavich in San Antonio. The Warriors have just had bad decision making since moving out West from Philly. Let's hope its beginning to change.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting custodianrules2:</div><div class="quote_post">I bet the Warriors are hiring Mo Cheeks next.</div>I hope Musselmen sticks around for a while. This guy has already done some good things for this organization with what he has had to work with.
There are times when Muss just doesn't understand in-game substitutions, but I attribute that to him being a young coach. For this team to come around, we need a decent system in place and keeping Muss around for a while should establish that. Think of the Jazz and Jerry Sloan's system as an example.
Amen to that. Muss just kills it for us at times with his 4th quarter lineups. You've probably heard me rant about all those 1 point losses that were attributed to nothing but all scoring from the small guards and no defensive stops because of the size disparity and lack of defensive toughness. I mean crap if he's putting "no defense" Nick into the game for the ability to make terrible shot selections miraculousy go in the basket some of the times, you put in as many rebounders as you can so you can at least have a second chance to claim the ball if he misses it. But what does Musselman do? He makes NVE the 2 and moves everybody on the current roster up one on the position chart and benches Dampier. So now you have 4 positions that you are vulnerable to getting scored upon and shot over. NVE at the 2. A 6'3" Richardson at the 3. Dunleavy/Cardinal at the 4. And Robinson at the 5 who has no rebounding and average blocking skills. <pant pant pant>
^ I was wondering if you keep that typed up in a word document so you can copy and paste it in every time something about Musselman's coaching comes up... haha

Regardless, I think the Warriors have done a decent job of letting go problem players...Here's a list of the more notable names let go by the Warriors in the last 10 years... Gilbert Arenas - overpriced contract Antawn Jamison - one-dimensional scorer, opportunity to get a pg in NVE Earl Boykins - probably contract Larry Hughes - overpirced contract/ lousy defender and inconsistant shooter Danny Fortson - doghouse w/ coach Marc Jackson - overpriced contract, bust anyhow Donyell Marshall - oppurtunity to get danny fortson Latrell Spreewell - tried to kill coach Joe Smith - overpriced contract / bust anyhow Rony Seikaly - I don't know why Tim Hardaway - I don't know why Tom Gugliota - opportunity to get donyell marshall Chris Webber - demanded a trade because he didn't like don nelson Penny Hardaway - chance to get Webber When you look at the list, there was a good reason to let go of every single player on that list, maybe except Boykins and perhaps Tim Hardaway (i dont recall why he was let go)... Right now, it appears that J-Rich and Troy Murphy are the two definite keepers for the current Warriors...
My thing would be. If you are going to trade the Webbers, Spreewells, Timmys, Jamisons, Richmonds etc. that you at least get good players in return. The Warriors didn't do this, and thus they are on a miserable playoff drought and are still one of the cellar dwellars of the league. That is not good. And i'd rather watch "problem players" that had game(Webber, Spree, Arenas) than some trash players with decent attitudes. Actually Musselman's ability to keep everything running smoothly in Warrior-land and not letting anything terrible get out in the media and ruin the team is what was needed years ago. This is one of the big reasons why i like Musselman as the head coach. Especially on a losing team, when there are a lot of unhappy people. The moves this team has made years ago are unacceptable. The moves being made today are unacceptable. I am waiting for the Warriors to finally do something and fire Garry Saint Jean(i know a lot of the bad deals were made before him, but he's still done a terrible job).

You can say the same thing with Spreewell...the Warriors were forced to trade him, which leaves little bargaining power...in addition, teams don't exactly jump at the oppurtunity to acquire a player that attacked a coach With Jamison, getting NVE was a fair deal...The Warriors needed a true point guard, and they Warriors felt the need to free up a spot for Dunleavy...No one forsaw that NVE would have such an injury-prone season... In Tim Hardaway's situation, he had come off of a major injury...his value wasn't as high as you would imagine...and in the trade, they got Kevin Willis, who at the time was a 15 and 10 caliber player....(I'm not saying they shoud've traded Hardaway, i'm just trying to reason it out) This was before my time, but from what I hear, Billy Owens was quite the prospect and I guess that was the reasoning for trading Richmond...this was probably the biggest mistake the Warriors have done in the last 15 years tho...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting custodianrules2:</div><div class="quote_post">They should have kept Run TMC together for more than 3 years at least.</div> Yeah, Billy Owens for Richmond was just stupid.
