The Blazers are missing the swish3s that could have won the Clippers game, and who might be most likely to make them? With Meyers missing, there is a deficit of the 3+ additional swish3s that the Blazers have in winning games. With only 6 of 24 shooting, the scoring is weaker, and someone should step up to bring this offense. Based on player statistics, Allen and Chris appear most successful. The Blazers should use them to score swish3s, and to take the pressure off of Dame and CJ. Both Allen and Chris can also be assigned to give Dame and CJ the additional picks that they need to get more optimal swish3 shots. Who else can make them? We are furthermore missing the increasingly effective Meyers picks and floor spacing, and need improved screening effort from Mason, Chief, Ed, and Chris. To be more likely to win at least 6 more games, the Blazers need an additional 3+ swish3s per game.
Since Meyers will no longer be giving up 2 easy layups or committing 3 horrible fouls each game we can survive the 1.4 3pt FG's he averaged just fine. Go Blazers!
This is not a representative summary. Meyers contributed 3 swish3s in several of the winning efforts, and that offense needs to be addressed. Typically, Meyers was not giving up easy layups but was increasingly causing missed shots by arms high defense that altered the trajectory of shot attempts. The fouls called against the big men are often referee nonsense that is not consistent and many times just what they guessed might happen. The coaches should challenge more of these phantom fouls. The Blazers need to have their average of about 9-10 swish3s to get the wins. Go Blazers!
Honest question. Why do you call them swish3s when they are called 3 pointers? Why not just call them 3 pointers?
kaman shooting threes? a career .042 shooter from three? with his only make over his 13 year career coming this year....
Calling them swish3s is just a way of highlighting the fun that the 3 pointer has added to basketball. Given the importance of the 3 point option can have to momentum in the game, and that the swish is the celebration by the basketball itself of the score, this is just a happy term. Don't you admit that the swish3 is exciting?
Yes and no. I remember growing up watching the Blazers on a fast break. That was exciting! Now everyone runs to a corner and shoots a 3. Yeah its probably better analytically and more effective. But it was far more exciting seeing Jerome, Buck and Clyde destroying opponents at the rim. It's sad that style of basketball will never return.
The end result of an extra point is nice. But if i'm being honest, a well executed fast break and rewarding the trailer running the lane is far more exciting. Though, I do appreciate you finally saying what it is. I've always wanted to know.
It's not just the swish3s that Meyers contributed. He spread the floor. Our offense looked great when he was out there. I miss him already.
