I'll take Gordon. He is 35.3% on game winning shots, which isn't that bad. Above the league average. He is perfect from the line when the game is on the line. Kobe on the other hand just shoots 25% on game winners (below the league average) and has missed 20% of his free throws when the game is on the line. http://www.82games.com/gamewinningshots.htm Gordon is 7th in most three pointers made from 03-04 to the present season, and that is with him not having played in 03-04. He jumps up to #2 or #3 at the very least if 03-04 was factored out, and it was just looking at the time Gordon's been in the league. While there is the common line that Gordon's game winning scoring fell off after his rookie year, that's not completely true. He made 4 game winners his rookie season. In 06-07, he led the league in game winners at 5. This thread isn't meant to knock Kobe. While he hasn't been that great at making the game winning shot in the regular season, he leads the league over this time span with game winners in the playoffs. He really steps his game up when it matters. It's more to show that Gordon isn't some crap after his rookie season like some people try to make it out to be. There is a noticeable trend. In 04-05 and 06-07, when the Bulls were one of the best teams in the East, with one of the best defenses in the league (aka, could get the stops to set up these game winning opportunities), Gordon has been among the league leaders. When the Bulls weren't doing so hot (05-06, 07-08, and 08-09), Gordon hasn't done all that well.
Who would the other coach guard more heavily? Gordon, or Kobe? If Kobe had the reputation of Gordon while maintaining his current skills, he would shoot at least 65% in clutch time.
Kobe is one of the best, if not the best clutch shooter in NBA history. Gordon doesn't even come close. I don't know if Gordon even deserves comparison to Travis Outlaw let alone Kobe.
Well Gordon's a better clutch shooter than Kobe...in the regular season. Kobe is below the league average on last shots. Not sure how someone below average can be the best....but that wasn't the point of the thread. Kobe is one of the best playoff clutch shooters, but has been dismal in the regular season.
Let's ask a basic question. In comparison, who do you think is guarded more heavily, Gordon, or Kobe? More over, let's imagine Gordon and Kobe on the same team. In clutch possessions, who would the opponent guard?
LMAO at the Kobe fan club getting butthurt. The guy has some numbers to back it up. And I don't know about you, but if I'm the coach of an NBA team and I'm playing Chicago, I'm going to cover the shit out of Gordon on the last play. Just as much as I would with Kobe. The notion that the same players are going to cover one guy harder than another is laughable.
Ben Gordon's fucked now that Derrick Rose is on the team. He's had his first looks at some wide open shots on end plays for the first time in a long time, but Rose is too seflish to pass him the ball. A Look at Derrick Rose's Late Game Selfishness | Dabullz.com Look at the picture in that link. Rose just has to do a reach around bounce pass to Gordon and bam, game winning three, Bulls up by 2, Knicks lose. Instead Rose gets blocked. (He's been blocked like on 4 other ocassions at the end of games because he's unwilling to pass the ball). To my recollection, Gordon hasn't gotten the opportunity to shoot any end game shots this year. It's been all Derrick Rose every time, and Rose has failed everytime as well. The only game winning shot we've had this year was when Rose missed it, Hughes got the offensive rebound and stuck the jumper. Time to go back to Ben in the clutch.
If the Celtics had one of the two, last game might have ended differently, too bad all you have is Ray Allen.
Does anyone have the stats on Carmelo? I remember people were saying he was the clutchest player in the league like a couple of seasons ago. Does that even have any merit?
Well at least I'll take Kobe the last five minutes of any close game. http://www.82games.com/0809/CSORT11.HTM
Hmm, who would I take? This guy who's overrated in a certain situation, or this other guy who's going to fail two-thirds of the time? The answer is actually sitting on the bulls bench: Larry Hughes, a far better option than either it seems... But if I had to to choose either, I'd still take Kobe, because my hunch is that he is missing game winners against good teams like the Celtics and the Cavs and BG is missing game winners against OKC and MN.
Well against Minnesota, Rose missed the potential game winner twice, at the end of the fourth and again in overtime. Against Oklahoma City, Rose missed the potential game winner. Not sure what Rose missing every game winner he's attempted this year has to do with Gordon.
BG missed the shot that would have put them ahead against OKC in overtime. BG hasn't been a good option since his rookie year when he was 4-7. He's been living off of that rep since then. Even in 06-07 he was an atrocious 5-14. Take out those years and he is 3-13. Bad.
Atrocious? That's about just as good as any of the other league leaders percentages on game winners. Gordon misses a shot with 4 minutes left in overtime, and that's the reason why he's not clutch? Yes, Gordon didn't have a great overtime, but the Bulls lost by 11. That shot that could have given the Bulls the lead with almost 4 minutes left in overtime is some pretty flimsy evidence.
