I'll try to break it down:Sebastian Telfair: He is lightning quick, and his hesitation/crossover moves are just plain sick. He excells in pick-and-rolls and penetration, but one thing has been catching up to him. He's very small, and this really costs him on defense. He used to put alot of effort to make up for it, but lately he has been using all his energy on offense. Best case scenario? he's a young marbury-type player. one of the quickest in the league that can't be stopped from coming in the lane. Worst case scenario? He is a one-dimensional player who is out of control on offense and worthless on defense. where do I see him? I see him as a sparkplug off the bench. an explosive player that can push the ball and score in the half-court.Delonte West: Probably has the most heart on the team. I've heard him called Dennis Johnson with a jumpshot, and I can't say it's too far off. He rebounds, hustles everywhere, dives on the ball, takes care of the ball, plays tough defense. the only thing is he will likely play the 2 a lot in his career, and he's a bit undersized. His heart will only take him so far. Best case scenario? He becomes one of the best role players a team could ask for, playing tenacious defense while playing smart and efficiently on offense. worst case scenario? his confidence is shattered and can never pull himself together for a full season. I love Delonte's swagger, but I can imagine his confidence taking a shot if/when rondo and/or telfair really emerge(s). where do I see him? I see him as a back-up 2 guard that can come in and hit open shots and help push the ball. I really thought he could flourish last year, but the backcourt is just too crowded.Rajon Rondo: The true pg this team really needs. Probably the best true pg this Celtics franchise has seen in decades. He seems to always make the right decision, he penetrates well in the lane, he's easily the most effective ballhandler on the team already. Bassy may be the best at crossovers and such, but when rondo dribbles, he's dribbling to get somewhere. you rarely see a wasted dribble with him. he can go left just as easily as right, which will really help him to excell in the open court and in pick-and-roll situations. and to put the cherry on top, he's arguably the team's best defender. Best cas scenario? He's an all-star putting up kidd-like numbers. Great passer with extremely high iq, good defender and rebounder? Worst case scenario? He can never develop a steady jumpshot, therefore teams don't take him seriously form the outside. I really don't see this happening tho because of how quick rondo is, he can still pass his man, and he has a pretty nice floater. where do I see him? I see him near the best case scenario. he might not ever be an official all-star, but I defeiniely see him being all-star caliber within the next 4 or 5 years. He'll be true pg, hopefully leading the celtics to contention.
good post I'd take Rajon Rondo out of all of them, he has the true PG abilities offensively and his defense is just plain dirty. He's a little mix of Delonte and a little mix of Telfair, he has the quickness and slashing skills...but he also does the little things like Delonte. Steals, creative plays, rebounds....I'd take Rondo because his potential is a combination of both Telfair and West.
I will have to pick Rondo. Delonte is the best player of the three, and with his work ethic no question he'll improve too, but he's not a "point guard." I love Delonte as a combo guard. Rondo is the PG of the future. He has tenacious defense, great hands, excellent passer, plays under more control than Telfair, he's just as quick, he's an excellent penetrator, and he's vocal. He is super athletic. He's going to be a hell of a player, and he's the truest PG on the roster. I am not counting out Telfair though, I still like him. He's more of a scorer than a true PG, but trust me he is a very good passer as well. He's a better shooter than Rondo as well, and probably has the edge on Rondo with speed. But he's not a good defender, he sometimes plays sloppy, and he is smaller. He's still going to be a good player, IMO, but Rondo will be the better one. I look at Delonte as an excellent combo guard and a guy that will be an excellent 6th man for the Celtics for a long time. Your answer: Rajon Rondo.
