Everyone is on and on about where LeBron will go and who has cap space. Well as things stand the C's will have 15 mill in cap space come 2010 because Ray Allen's contract expires. There a good chance the C's may have another title to their resume by then and will still have KG and Paul for another year as well as Rondo and Perkins. LeBron is most likely out of the question, but what about Dwayne Wade? Wouldn't he be a great fit in the backcourt with Rondo? He'll be 29 by then and will be looking for a big payday. Sure the back end of that contract may suck as he'll be 35/36 and eating up cap space, but wouldn't adding Wade with a 33 year old Pierce and 34 yr old KG look good for a year or two and give the C's another chance at a title? It's about winning titles and adding Wade would make the C's contenders regardless of how good other teams look. Chris Bosh MAY be an option, but I think if the Knicks can lure LeBron to NY, they may also convince Bosh to join the team too. It will of course come down to how successful the Raptors are in the playoffs and if Colangelo can build a winner in Toronto. The bottom line is, come 2010, the stars on this team will be waning and Ainge will need to replace Ray Allen's productivity with a star. With 15 Million, what player do fellow C's fans think the team has a realistic shot at come 2010?
Didn't know we had 15 mil... that makes things interesting, for sure. I'd go for Wade, definitely. He would fill a hole that Ray's departure will open up, and he's young enough and has shown the ability to take over games that we'll need to stay on top by then.
I don't think we'll be under the cap if we have KG and Pierce's max deals to go with whatever Rondo and Powe get when their rookie deals are up.
well KG and Paul's contracts are already included for 2010 http://sportstwo.com/NBASalaries.php? but of course Rondo will need to get paid so that may eat some of it up. Still pay the superstars and as we saw, vets who want a ring will play for cheap.
Same here, I'd go with Wade as well, he's a top 5 player. Now put him on a team with KG, Paul, Rondo and Perk and you'll be in line to win another 2 or 3 championships.
Forgot to take Rondo into account, he'll be due for an extension by then. Maybe we could just add a decent piece that summer, not a star, but someone that definitely produces. Mike Miller? I'm pretty sure he's available in 2010. And this is a pipe dream, but Rudy Gay's a RFA that summer, and if we could somehow pry him from Memphis... oh boy.
hmm not totally sold on Gay yet. He's a volume shooter who turns the ball over and doesn't do much else IMO. Of course he could improve, or he could stay in me first mode because he's playing on such a shitty team.
Resigning Ray for another 2 years would be the best (and, pretty much, the only) option. We will not be under the cap in 2010 unless Pierce or Garnett is traded.
yeah but if Ray comes back, it's gotta be for like 5-7 mil per year or less. He'll be 35 by 2010 and his legs will be done for anything not involving his sweet, sweet jumper.
That's a good point. A good player might sign with us at the MLE in order to win a title. I would still sign Ray on top of that, too, because I think he'll have plenty left at 35.
