As we all have heard already the chances of KO coming back are very slim. So who do you think would be the perfect coach for this team? Personally I think we should hire Doug Collins because he is a very intelligent baskeetball mind who i think would be perfect here.
I have a feeling that KO will stay for another year but GG will be given the boot. As for coaches that are perfect for the Raptors.... I like Jim O'brien as a defensive coach but his offensive sets were horrible. I don't like Doug Collins as a head coach, he just doesn't seem to take his teams to the next level. Ideally I would want someone here to run a princeton style offence where there is a lot of movement and passing (Something the Raps are doing terribly at). Byron Scott comes to mind but he seems more like an assistant than a head coach. Where does all of this rambling get me? I stil think KO should have another year to coach the Raptors. One year is not a fair chance for him to show his capabilities.
I would love to bring back Butch Carter, although the possibility of that happening is probably zero. He would be perfect for this team, hes a hard nosed coach that could whip this team back into shape, and would be the best for Vince, he would not accept forced jumpers, or low energy either, I believe he would be the best - even if it was an assistant position, to teach this team to play more aggressive.
Yah man. Butch was a no-nonsense guy that helped turn the Raptors around. He not only was hard on his players but he cared for them as well. It won't happen but I would not protest such a move.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting v_carter15:</div><div class="quote_post">I would say either Byron Scott, Doug Collins, or possibly Doc Rivers.</div> Why is that may I ask?
This is ridiculas, whoever is suggesting to fire Kevin O'Neill has no understanding of coaching and the NBA !
It was on Raps TV, the guys were saying if we don't make the playoffs he probably won't be back after this season. I say we get Bzdelik if Denver lets him go.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Air Canada:</div><div class="quote_post">This is ridiculas, whoever is suggesting to fire Kevin O'Neill has no understanding of coaching and the NBA !</div> And why is that Air Canada? I don't see any progress with the Raptors right now, and why is it that another person mentioning the firing of KO to be someone that does not understand basketball. Someone that understands basketball can also be detremental to a team, case in point Michael Jordan as an executive. Horrible, horrible. Don't undermine people's ability to make a suggestion. The only thing that you're doing is making claims that anyone that doesn't think like you does not understand basketball. Are you an NBA front office exec? I thought so, so keep to the thread and don't make claims that people don't understand basketball. You would rather stick to a sinking ship. It's the difference between a winner and a loser. I think we all know where you stand.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Air Canada:</div><div class="quote_post">This is ridiculas, whoever is suggesting to fire Kevin O'Neill has no understanding of coaching and the NBA !</div> well Jack Armstrong himself feels that KO will be fired at seasons end
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting cb4:</div><div class="quote_post">well Jack Armstrong himself feels that KO will be fired at seasons end</div> Jack Armstrong said he feels KO would be leaving but what he mainly was saying is that KO SHOULDN?T be leaving. Believe it or not, he said those exact words that Air Canada just wrote.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting CourtVision:</div><div class="quote_post">Where does all of this rambling get me? I stil think KO should have another year to coach the Raptors. One year is not a fair chance for him to show his capabilities.</div> I couldn?t have said it better myself. The man only has one more year on his contract left so at least let him finish that. Hopefully we will get more talent in the off-season and only then can we truly see what KO?s capable of. Btw, this is starting to become like the other thread (about who we should blame on the raptors) if we continue this debate about KO?s effectiveness as a coach. Let?s not get into a debate about this when it?s already been done elsewhere.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Air Canada:</div><div class="quote_post">This is ridiculas, whoever is suggesting to fire Kevin O'Neill has no understanding of coaching and the NBA !</div> I don't know what goes on in the locker room, but from what I've seen Kevin O'neill lacks tenacity, he seems to soft. In previous years with other coaches the Raptors played at a much higher energy level, now the players look like they don't care. Right now there isn't anyone in the whole organization who can motivate these guys (sad, I know), so we need a new coach that can really crack down on players. If a team like Milwaukee can win games, and earn a playoff spot, theres no reason why we can't. I'm not dissing their organization, but lets face it, not many thought they would be successful, and they've proved to us that they have a great group of guys, that work hard every night. My point is theres no reason that this team can't win games. We're a fairly talented team, just the effort isn't shown. Considering the fact that we don't have an official "leader" on this team, we need to pick up a coach that knows how to motivate his players.
I would say Butch Carter would be the best for the raptors. He was good with Carter, and Carter talked to him on the Fan590 once before this season started and they sounded like father son type relationship. KO sucks plainly

Hmm oh yea, Chris Young is a jerk, and so is Dave Feschuk.. they both think the same way. But I know that Butch Carter wanted to take over Grunwalds position, so he got fired. Butch Carter later said he regret what he had done b/c Grunwald and Butch were friends back when they were young.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Air Canada:</div><div class="quote_post">If you're supporting Butch Carter, I'd like you to the read the book Drive written by Chris Young, I did and I changed many of my opinions towards Butch !</div> The fact is Butch helped us to a 45-37 record in 1999, and the first playoff birth in the history of the franchise. The Knicks beat us 3-0 in a five game series that year, however it was still a successful year. Lenny took over the following year and our record was 47-35 in 2000, and 6-6 in the playoffs, and in my mind, Butch could have done the same thing Lenny did that year. I loved those 2 years when the Raptors gave it all every single game, now watching a game is painful. Kevin O'neill has had the opportunity to do some good things with this organization and hasn't really capitalized in the sense that the players are no longer motivated. Obviously its not Kevin O'neill's fault entirely, but this team needs someone to spark a fire and get us off the ground again, I'm becoming impatient and frustrated because we have the talent to atleast reach the 8th seed.

I understand your frustration but taking it out on KO is not the right way to go. If you think KO doesn't have leadership qualities and cannot provide a spark to help our team, then maybe Jack Armstrong can change your mind: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"In defence of Lenny, he allows leadership, and quite frankly, there was no-one that really stepped forward and took control of that," said Armstrong. "I think Kevin realizes he's got a team that needs someone to provide that spark, and he gives it to them." ...... "When you look at a team, when you look at today's player, a lot of times they're not as detail-conscious as they should be, and they need someone who's organized, fiery, passionate, who's willing to tell them what they need to hear," said Armstrong. "Provide them that tough love. He gives this team direction that it sorely needs."</div> http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Basketball/NBA/T.../326034-cp.html Take the time to read the article. I'm sure you won't question his softness ever again. Anyways, you and I both know that this is starting to become a duplicate thread if we continue these discussions about KO. Mostly everything's been said in regards to this topic in the other thread.
