Let's face it, the Warriors are not going to get Al Harrington with Troy Murphy alone. It would be great if Mikael Pietrus was the added sweetner to make the deal, but if push comes to shove would you give up Andris Biedrins????

Yeah, it's a bit of a lunacy seeing that AB is only 20 yrs. old and an emerging defensive force on the Warriors. He's got a lot of potential and could be another Rik Smits in a couple of years if his defense, rebounding and offense develops.

OTOH he's been quick to pick up fouls and get himself planted right back to the bench by Monty. He's not a real offensive force either as it's been difficult for him to create his own shots. He basically has to have someone pass the ball to him. He scores a lot on put backs and dunks. Maybe he can develop his baby hook but he still has a ways to go to get some low post action going. Now he has Chris Taft and Patrick O'Bryant to fight for development time.

It would've been great to see AB in summer league action but too bad he got hurt.

So if AL comes at a fair price, around $40 - $50 M for 4 to 5 yrs (around what Dunleavy got) then is it worth giving up AB and Troy Murphy for AL?

    That is the $64,000.00 question.

We are basically dumping Troy Murphy's huge contract for AL. The risk is Andris Biedrins blowing up in Atlanta. ATL would be interested in AB because he's a young center prospect and he could play some PF seeing that Shelden Williams hasn't been too good in SL.

Harrington would give the Warriors another scorer up front and his D is good enough. Dunleavy comes off the bench along with Monta to give the Warriors a good rotation. We still have Taft and an emerging POB who's also 20 yrs. old to pick up where Andris would have left off.

It depends if we wanna win now then we must trade him, but if we wanna win in the future then we should keep him.

No, I wouldnt consider it at all unless Atlanta threw in M. Williams or Josh Smith.

    Heck no.

Biedrins IMO could be a double double guy if he could just stay out of foul trouble and make at least 60% of his free throws. He's already pretty intelligent, has excellent recovery time and coordination, great hands, nice touch within 10 feet of the basket, he's beginning to score with his right hand more, he likes to play rough, and all he really needs to do is get more skilled and stronger. He's got basic footwork that's quick, but he's too lightweight to shove anybody off the block or hold his position just yet.

If we're dealing Biedrins for a player that fits and has some upside like Rashard Lewis, I'd do that one. But no way we trade a promising project for some one-dimensional SF/PF tweener.

Harrington for Dunleavy or nothing at all. We should stand pat if it doesn't give us the steps to maneuver in the future, because we're not going anywhere fast with this lineup without Baron Davis. Grabbing Harrington would be like throwing all of our eggs into one basket because it doesn't improve the financial situation and it takes away things that Murphy or Pietrus or Dunleavy are good at. All Harrington does is add to the scoring and that's not our problem. It's getting the ball to the scorer and creating space. Big men help in that role by keeping the paint honest.

Wherever Biedrins goes, despite his foul and FT insanity, he'd be a fan favorite. And he has so much upside.

Dont the Warriors have other young big man prospects in Patrick O'Bryant and Ike Diogu? Patrick O'Bryant also looks like he's going to be a force on the defensive end and will probably end up being the better offensive player. This in my opinion makes Andris Biedrins somewhat expendable. So yeah if push comes to shove the Warriors should give up Andris Biedrins. Just my two cents.

Anyway I think Isiah Thomas should be fired.

We do have alot of young big men but you really can't have too many. POB hasn't shown anything yet and Biedrins is a productive backup C already, Ike Diogu isn't really a project at all he just needs playing time to get more acclimated to defense and rebounding in the NBA. If we do trade Biedrins (or any of the young bigs) then I'd want a good veteran big man coming back. Al Harrington isn't a player we need, he'd be nice to have but scoring tweeners aren't hard to find.

It would be dumb to trade Beins without even seeing O'Bryant play a single NBA game yet. Plus I like Beidrins upside more for some reason..maybe its cause of his heart and passion. Remember when he cancelled his workout with the Suns so they wouldn't draft him and he'd be a Warrior, and he shed tears of joy when we drafted him. O'Bryant seemed nonchalant and had a lazy personality when he was drafted. I hope that doesn't transfer to his play on the court. Anyway AB has alot of upside and he's a guy that should be given another 2 years here atliest to show what he's got.

Beans is very raw, but theres something about the guy that makes us love him. I mean if any other guy fouled out and shot FT's like he does then I'm sure we'd hate him like we do MDJ. But Beans is awesome and hope he sticks around.

This league hardly has any good big men left so if Beans turns out to be something, we may have something franchises only dream about.

Biedrins could be Kmart or Ben Wallace like. But maybe I'm being hopeful. He's still a fan-favorite euro project as far as everyone is concerned.

If we gave up a raw shooting guard or small forward I wouldn't care. The ex-fan favorite Pietrus' luster wore off when he demonstrated how stupid of a ball player he could be. He gets so lost and commits unexplainable fouls, it's to the point where you can't even reliably use this guy to help you win games. If Pietrus can turn it around, that's when I'll love the guy again.

I loved watching him play defense against point guards while Dunleavy played point guard on offense. But as a small forward that can't consistently shoot or take care of the ball well and make right decisions and with Jrich looking up shooting guard, his role becomes somewhat less.

We need decision-makers from three different places just to keep Pietrus from having to make them. I'll take NVE/Baron at point, Dunleavy/ Richardson on the wing, plus Cliff at PF for starting rotation if it means keeping the ball away from Pietrus unless its to shoot from the corner or to get a slam dunk running without the ball. That role pretty much makes Pietrus a small forward rather than a shooting guard position he should be playing. The shooting guard should ideally be similar to point guard, only more emphasis on shooting the ball and driving to the bucket and getting midrange shots to go down.

Hold on to Biedrins and use center by committee until we figure out who has the basic skills to hang and attitude and potential to continue to grow.

Beans could very well be as valuable as Harrington in a few years. And that's not just "potential" talk. He's probably as quick as Harrington right now, plus he's long, athletic, with a great second burst for tip-ins and put backs, and loves playing a traditional "Big-Man's" role.

Obviously he needs to live up to that potential and eventually produce, but I think he can. If he adds a few pounds of pure muscle, gets that freethrow % up to at least 65%, and stops fouling so much, who knows how good of a center he can become? He's a legit 7-feet and he's still growing. He's quicker than probably any Warriors big-man other than Zarko. Last year he picked a pass and went coast to coast by himself for the finish. I really like everything about what GS has gotten from Andris Biedrins so far. Plus he plays great with Baron Davis -- he loves to catch the dish and burst for a quick finish. Davis gives a big man the chance to have fun. He offered that time and time again to Foyle last year, but Foyle didn't seem interested. He was as fooled by Baron's moves and dishes as the defense was. Ike and Biedrins -- they like it. Alot.

Biedrins needs to keep growing as a player, and I can't wait to see him develop. No way I trade him unless it's part of a no-brainer.

Not trying to be one.. but isn't that statement exactly potential talk?

Heh -- What I mean is that he doesn't just have the potential to be a good player -- like a draft pick who's never played in the NBA yet -- he's already showing signs that the "potential talent" Mullin hoped he had when he drafted Beans is actually "real talent" to some extent.

He still needs to continue to improve, and he has the "potential to get better," but IMO in year two he was already a better center than our current starter. To me his play last year wasn't merely "potential," it was actual "talented" play.

When Erick Dampier can say he's the #2 center you know there aren't too many big men who can play the pivot. Of course, Shaq got back at Damp when he said while playing injured and poorly that he was playing like Erick Dampier. Damp had scored a big fat zero points in their encounter at the time.

Shaq got lucky that his team pulled him through because Damp had Shaq's number in the finals.

Looking at the long term, I'd say that getting rid of Beans and Murphy for Harrington is a good thing. It brings balance to the team. I don't see Beidrins ever being a dominant force, and this brings Dunleavy to the bench which I think would make for a major improvement in Team basketball.

Would I rather give Pietrus and or Zarko... that's a tough call. But probably yes. I just don't think that's enough considering Murphy's contract.

IMO Beans is the only legit center on this team right now.

What about Taft? He's 6'10 but still has a good frame.

I like him alot at center, but as of right now he's not legit IMO. Who knows if he'll ever come back from his back surgery? And when he does, he'll need to pick up where he left off.

I mean hey, we have a 7'2" guy from Serbia who could be good someday, but who knows. POB could be a boom or a bust. Who knows. Foyle? Dunleavy is probably taller than him with shoes. As of right now, the only true, somewhat-proven big man in GS who can defend, rebound and block shots in the paint is Beans IMO. But even he (at only year 2) has a long way to go. I think he'll continue to improve. I wouldn't dream of trading him right now.

    AlleyOop,

If you HAD to trade one, Biedrins or Monta, who would you let go?
