My sole reason is that it amuses me. I'm certainly not expecting to convert anyone - or to be converted.

I assume everyone else participates for the same reason: in order to amuse me.

Some people think that all that's needed to convert someone is to browbeat them with facts/opinions or to just scream loud and long enough until yours is the last voice standing, therefore you are the "winner". Which is retarded, like any of us have any real influence or power.

I'm more along with barfo... it amuses me. My father, whom I rarely see eye-to-eye with on political matters, and I have some of our most fun conversations when we are screaming at each other about how much of an idiot the other is because we don't think "X". Of course, some of them have also resulted in us not talking for months, so there's work to be done in that aspect.

To piggy back on what barfo states- it's cheap entertainment.

Now that said, I like reading what people think about such things. To be sure, 90% of it is sheep crap as people blindly follow what they are told to believe in the absence of any independent thought, but the 10% can be very informative. And even the 90% tells me something- that more and more civics are vanishing and people are hating more and adopting an "I must win and you must lose" view of the world. Morality continues to tumble and forums like this are somewhat a microcosm of that.

This is serious business. We are documenting the fall of America, so that in 50 years, Chinese students can translate this, and study how not to let their country go under, over such trivia as giving tax breaks to the rich, and being in perpetual war with a billion Muslims to help Israel.

A hundred years from now, mine will be a famous name in Chinese literature, cited by admiring politicians. Denny will be a great villain, like Brutus or Attila.

Why bother talking about anything ever? If I knew more about politics, I'd probably argue with the rest of you.

It's funny how often you use the sheep line as you espouse the same bullshit from the other side.

I don't expect to change anyone's mind but I do enjoy challenging my own opinion and understanding someone's else's view point more extensively. I have on more than one occasion realized another angle or two to the argument that I had not considered.

Arguing about it is a great way to learn more, actually. I don't care enough to do research unless I can do it to prove Denny wrong about something.

I don't post politics to learn or to be entertained.

    My purpose is pretty obvious.

I post here to set all you morons straight.

I agree. Political threads are stupid at this point until the government takes care of our outrageous gas prices.
Whatever the politicians say, gas prices seem to go back up when its election year.
Fucking hate the gas prices at this point and its killing our economy.

Except I'm not from the other side. I'm a moderate and registered independent. I have what few here do- the intellectual capacity to sit back and call them as they really are without putting sheep spin all over it.

I do find it amusing that sheep like yourself actually believe that everyone who isn't for you is against you. THAT'S the problem with this country today. You've espoused it perfectly. Once people stop thinking like you have done then we may see some real change for the better.

Yes, I always love the "I can see both sides" comments, and others are just stupid sheep. Usually why I avoid the political discussions here. How you talk about divisiveness and act like it just started these past four years, and then call anyone with a comment against yours a sheep.

Moderate and independant, but, like most that make that claim here, always seem to post on just one side of a discussion, with a once every blue moon "I slightly agree with this" thrown in to be a moderate independant. good for you. Keep with the name calling to anyone on only one side. Like the idiots who post anything that shows up on drudge, or who post every crap email forward full of lies isn't somehow a sheep as well? Yet you never call THEM sheep. Hmmm, wonder why that is? Baaaaaaaaaaaa
