With the days when Liverpool FC used to constantly challenge (and win) the league competition truly seeming like a distant memory, I would like to ask Liverpool fans why you think it is your team has faired so miserably in this competition since it's inception.

Personally, I put it down to one thing- poor management. Over the years, Liverpool have had ample money to spend- a statement which is supported by the fact that since the Premiership era began, Liverpool have been the 2nd biggest spenders on a net basis.

The team has not been short of talent , with the likes of Fowler, Owen, Gerrard etc nor supporters- as it too is one of the most widely supported clubs on the planet.

So given that the team was (seemingly) talented enough and the money was there, are they're any other factors besides poor management involved?

I have not been convinced as to whether or not Rafa has the capability to lead Liverpool to the premiership and his comments re Everton certainly prove that he has a lot to learn regarding diplomacy as well.

So I ask Liverpool supporters whether they agree with my assessment of the club's poor league form in the Premiership era and whether they think that Rafa is capable of leading them to "the promised land"

Not a Liverpool supporter but I do not beleive that Raffa Has it in him to be a truly great manager as for winning the Prem. no chance.
Raffa will be gone in two years time.

What's also strange is how we managed to win a European Cup with one of our poorest sides the same number of times (once) as MU with their BEST EVER side of the 90's?

He already has led us to the "promised land". You have to remember that it is only us Liverpool fans who are obsessed with winning the title because it has been so long but believe me the European cup carries far more prestige and always will. It is a far harder trophy to win, statistics prove this and Europe wide it would be difficult for fans elsewhere to tell you who won individual leagues in past years but all could tell you European cup winners.
Having said that I take your point and feel that any "mismanagement" was possibly during the Souness years when many traditions were disregarded. Simplistic I know but watch how great teams can decline so easily and quickly(e.g. Leeds Utd). Rafa has only been at Liverpool for just over two years having won the European and FA cups. It took Alex Furguson 5 years to win the league and in 20 years has won only one European cup. The answer to your question I feel is "Yes" he will lead us to the league. Have a look at his recent record including at Valencia, it is unbelievable and he is still relatively young. Every Liverpool fan I know is desperate to keep Rafa, he truely is remarkable. I suspect within the next few years the League title will be ours again. Yes what a terrible wait and Liverpool, the city, will go completely mad but honestly I would swap 5 league titles for another night like 25th May 2005.

Because you haven't had a truly great manger. Man utd have got Ferguson. Arsenal have got Wenger and chelsea have got Jose. Rafa won the champions league and the FA cup and i can't see liverpool winning anything else under his reign
