It always gets me! Teams that have a middle to poor year sitting quietly during the off season. The sonics is one of the most annoying ones, they get 10th pick and get a project??? then they keep a few players but honestly does shifting role players from one team to another take you from lottery to playoffs? Teams shouldnt be so afraid to make BIG deals!!
There are a lot of reasons. Why make a big trade just for the hell of it? Are they going to trade Ray Allen if they don't get what they want in return? Nope. That's why Philadelphia (supposedly) isn't trading AI because we're not getting enough in return. We're better off keeping him for another season or so.Role players do make a difference, but very rarely are you going to have a team that goes from mediocre one year and title contenders the next.Also, half the time their GM sucks... like the Sixers' GM.
Some teams just think their potential will come through, so they stand pat. Some teams try things, but they have no chips, and FA's don't care for the team.I'm guessing you're a sonics fan?
yes i am a sonics fan, but also the sixers. I dont mean exactly trading ray is the go. but maybe rashard ? Biggest reason is cap space. I mean NY should make some huge moves and decisions, but they can't because they are SO over the cap it isn't even funny.Some teams need to wait a whole decade before they can really start to rebuild.
Yeah, most of what everyone has said so far is true.Something to consider is that a team has to look at things in the long term. Now, I don't know who will be available next year, but for some (probably more like most) teams, this was not a great year to invest in free agency. For many teams, it has been a year to lose some big contracts and so forth. I mean, let's say that the Sonics get the best players they could possibly get. What would that do for them? I mean, first of all, they aren't an incredibly popular team. Certainly an owner is not going to invest in a high-salary player to bring to a city that gets poor attendance. The one that you seemed to like, Chicago, has a lot of things going for them that allow them to sign someone like Ben Wallace. Obviously they have the money and an atmosphere that will lure him into their franchise. They have youth which not only means they have a bright future, but also that they probably aren't paying outrageous salaries to old veterans. And of course, they are in a great position to perhaps make it to the finals. I will agree with you on one thing... Sene was a terrible pick.
points well taken!! i think you might have said it all when you said about the market?! I'm in Australia though so i dont know that much about the city or the support etc. Perhaps the rumored move to OK city will be a good thing.

I'm sure they would go watch the Sonics if the organization didn't seem so happy to be mediocre. They've been in the same place (standings wise), with the same team for years now. It's getting time to rebuild.
Well to start off it's not easy to make a trade in the NBA. With the cap rules and all that. Alot of people just think a GM can hop on the phone and make a deal within 10 minutes. It's not going to happen. What do you want the Sonics to do? They dont have much to work with. You don't trade Ray Allen, unless u get a star of his caliber and another solid player, which probably won't happen. Rashard Lewis is about the only one they can get rid of and get decent in return. But do you really wanna give up a 6'10", young, athletic forward and can shoot the three with the best of em?? The Sonics won't admit they are in a rebuilding process, but they are. Alot of other teams won't admit it either. They know if they make it public the ticket sales will drop. Rebuilding processes are slow, they don't happen after a year or two unless you have an unbelievable off-season which RARELY happens. No the Chicago Bulls have not had an amazing off-season. It was stellar, but that's a whole different story.
don't forget seattle reportedly TRIED to trade for marion, the best all around player in the league. so they've TRIED. most teams just have cap problems, are retarted, or have some secret plans that usually dont work out
