<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Eric Musselman will have an NBA head-coaching job next season because he deserves it and because he is not exactly cursed by overwhelming competition. The job almost certainly won't be with the Warriors, though, for many reasons, not all of them idiotic. So, now that we know the Warriors won't win out from mid-March on, let's run through a 10-step primer on NBA Reality, as it relates to Musselman, the Warriors and why a breakup will be best for both sides: </div> http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews...rts/8328134.htm
Yeah, I think he deserves at least another season because he wasn't given a fair chance this year with all the injuries. He did as well as we could have hoped (well, maybe not.. we could have won a lot more of those close games....), but a good job nonetheless.
I would like to see Musselman stick around but Mullin might have another agenda. I just hope this one FINALLY works.
Here is my thing with Mussleman... I like him. He has gotten the most out his players and they play hard for him unlike all of our previous coaches. As far as not winning close games, and some questionable playing time, I think that is just a learning process. I think he stays away from the rookies and other young players because he wants to be like Phil Jackson or Pat Riley. Those guys are notorious for not playing young players until they have proven they belong on the court. I just hope he learns from his mistakes and becomes a better coach. If we would have been healthy and made the playoffs, I do not think anyone would be complaining about Muss.
I just hope he doesn't yank out our biggest rebounder/shotblocker next game and try to win with a smaller lineup like he kept doing in the 4th quarters earlier in the year. No rebounding, no defensive stops, and streaky scoring because the guards are trying to shoot against taller perimeter defenders and they can't block shots or keep from getting overpowered down low. If only NVE could play defense and also penetrate it would actually work for him as a 2 guard when Musselman was trying to go for that Claxton/NVE backcourt. Everyone remembers that one Toronto game. Yeah let's take out Dampier! He's only scored the only 2 points in the quarter for us and rebounded a bunch and blocked a few.
Man, cut him some slack. After all, he is a second-year coach experimenting with different lineups and seeing how they affect the game... but it's ok though, because you think that Don Nelson didn't undergo criticism when he first started playing smallball?
Again, I love Musselman and I love the attitude and energy that he brings to this team. If Mullin takes over this summer, he has the right to start fresh and try to turn this frachise around.

The only way they could keep this going is by getting new ownership and smarter and more inovative decision makers. The only thing a new successful coach for the Warriors could do, is to accelerate the success that the Warriors have been building on, from two seasons ago when Musselman came along. But how many coaches can you say confidently, could give the Warriors more success? Maybe Byron Scott or Pat Riley. But i doubt Pat is going to coach again, or at least not for the Warriors.
The article makes a good point- Musselman deserves the backing of a GM who truly believes in him and will bring in the players that Muss feels will be the best in his system... if Mullin takes over and isn't that GM, then Muss should go somewhere else and it will be best for both the Warriors and him. We wouldn't want a clash of ideas with Mullin and Musselman because we'd get nowhere.
Watch, he'll go somewhere and be contenders just like Karl, Nelson, and Adelman. History repeats itself again.

If Mullin steps in he will likely clean house and bring in his own people. I doubt Musselman gets another chance in Golden State even though he deserves it. It's a lot easier for the Warriors to part ways with him after a losing season, than if he were to comeback next year and coach them into the playoffs. If that happened fans would cry for an extension and Mullin would be in a difficult PR mess if he decided not to extend Musselman. I'd like to see them work it out, because Musselman will be a great coach in this league. The Warriors are going to have a lot of off season issues, should be interesting how it all plays out.
