I honestly believe that Atlanta has one of the ten most talent loaded rosters in the NBA, but they haven't had the right players in the right roles. With the Bibby deal, it seems that everybody's role has been set. Marvin Williams has had a leap frog year and proven he isn't just a bust. Josh Smith..well he's been 5X5 potential Josh Smith. Then of course Joe Johnson, one of the most underrated players in the NBA. He's a star wthout the star power. Why not Atlanta? They can get the 7th seed in the East, maybe even the 6th seed because with the Caron Butler injury, I think Washington will have a little cold streak and it will hurt them late in the season during the playoff push for a higher seed, Kidd's departure is going to kill the Nets for this season at least and Philadelphia is going to have a horrible stretch, they just aren't good enough or experienced enough yet. Give Atlanta a chance, maybe they won't win a game in the playoffs but I can tell you right now they'll be there and whatever seed they may be, they'll deserve to be there and it will give them playoff experience in the long run. Hell, keep the glue of this team together (Johnson, Smith, Horford, Law, Childress, Williams) and they could be a contender in the future. The biggest problem with the franchise has been the lack of a true point guard, and a log jam of wasted 1st round picks of failures at the PG spot. They traded away Lue and Johnson, including huge BUST Shelden Williams, one of the most posterized players in the NBA for Mike Bibby who finally gives them something at the point guard spot. It might take them a few games to gel but trust me, Atlanta is going to be a team to watch for the 2nd half of the year and in April.
Mike Woodson is 'why not Atlanta". but you never know. It all depend on how Bibby looks with this team. They have one of the more talented starting 5, but that trade, hit our depth a bit.
