Is this team built to lose a lot of games that we could both lose terry AND Neil in the same year? I say this because I am obviously in the "tired of stotts" camp, but people have made really compelling arguments as to why Neil needs to go. So... why not both?
Well, for coach itd be fizdale easy. With GM I would need to do research, since it's a bit harder.... but, I'm open to people educating me on that here.
Neil has an eye for drafting. His record in this regard is solid. HowEVER, everything else has been a disaster. He has a penchant for targeting mediocre, limited players like: Aminu, Davis, Monroe, Parsons, etc. Sam Hinkie, anyone? His tenure was rough but he knew that to be a contender you have have great talent. He took advantage of the system that resulted in: Simmons, Embiid, Saric, Fultz.
We'd have to miss the playoffs and finish out of the running by a significant amount of games for Olshey to be let go. And if that happens, I am sure Stotts would already take the fall.
If Collins and Swanigan don’t develop the narrative on Olshey will change drastically. Taking a second PF in the same class over Kuzma who plays the position of most need could look really dumb. Hindsight is always 20/20 but Kuzma was a good enough player to be drafted over Swanigan without factoring in our obvious roster limitations. I’m not a big Stotts fan but I would be in favor of Neil getting fired before Terry but think that if you bring in a new GM he would really value picking his coach instead of being handed a Terry Stotts on the hot seat. So if things don’t improve i would probably be in favor of replacing both of them. The Meyers and ET contracts and passing on players like Monk, Mitchell, and Kuzma are starting to look really bad.
Well in al seriousness, Thats quite the juggle. I would be happy tro sit in for mod for you.... I promise not to click on the Ban HCP option.
In protest, I will henceforth spell their names in reverse, Sttots and Yehslo. As an artistic statement, I wish to make them look into the mirror, and symbolically hold their feet to the fire.
As the Sttots and Yehslo era draws to a close, the Oregonian may again rear its ugly head. Let's make a clean break from the past and sever that Frankensteinian mug.
