I use Facebook everyday FAMS. It’s how our family that’s spread all over the country can stay updated on eachother. Love it.

I'm the guilty party. If this thread is actually intended for discussion, this title is perfect. The logic in the story applies to many Gen-Xers as well. No need to narrow the focus.

If the original title had been "boomers", it would surely have been left alone. But since it was pointed at (and clearly intended to incite a defensive response from) a specific particular poster, I felt the thread title was fair game. I'm probably just power-mad though.

I'll bet that for a reasonable donation to his favorite charity, @SlyPokerDog will entertain requests to alter it further. Heck, @barfo will probably do it for a fifth of rum.

Facebook Fucking sucks. The people who run it suck. The lies and misinformation have played a HUGE role in the fucking mess we are in. It’s brainwashed millions and millions of idiots. Fuck Facebook. Giving that platform any of your time and money is feeding right into the problem. Figure out a different way to stay in touch with your family lol.

What about old people who write their passwords on little post it notes that they stick to their monitor, then they take a picture of that monitor and post it on Facebook?

While I understand that position ... and I hate to agree with HCP on anything, but it's still the most convenient way to stay in touch with family and friends scattered across the globe. I agree Facebook the company sucks and is vile, but so are all the other social media platforms. I find it funny when my students tell me how facebook is horrible but rave about Instagram or Whatsapp, not realizing they are owned by the same company. TikTok is widely thought to basically be owned by the Chinese government. All these apps are horrible, but for some of us the ends justify the means, and hopefully are smart enough to understand a lot of the news on them is garbage.

I was off Facebook for about 5 years until this summer. Had to get back on there to get information on the details of a friend's funeral service. It's only a matter of time until I deactivate again, but in the meantime, it's kind of cool posting all our engagement photos for my family to see because they're a bunch of boomers.

I used to respect and admire old people, thinking they had gathered knowledge and wisdom through their years and taking their advice as sage. Then I got Facebook and was subjected their inner thoughts 24/7, I watched them chase away all the young people, complain that Facebook sensors their lies and misinformation, complain how young people are the problem, and watch as they get their accounts "hacked" every other week. (fyi it is not hacking when you give your passcode to a scammer). Now I see most boomers as lost in a generation that confuses them, desperately trying to find blame for why they were left behind and clinging to the little power they still have.

This is my general impression and directed at no on in particular. There are many boomers who are very clued in and reasonable, but they are an increasing minority.

Don't you think this is just a function of age and will be how many in your generation will be whenever that time comes? Didn't most of us look at our parents/grandparents and think they had it all figured out when we were kids, and then you grow up and one of the first real things to slap you in the face is they didn't have it any more figured out than we do now, they just acted like they did. It's the breaking down of this fallacy as an adult that I think is one of the main doorways to becoming an actual adult. The Boomers did a lot of great things and get a bad rap as we look back at a lot of the negatives. Sure they are struggling with technology but so did my grandparents that came from the 'greatest' generation, only for them it was a VCR and making sure the TV was on channel 3, the problems and issues are the same, it's just the technology that is changing. I'm in my early 40's and know that one day I'll be in this same position because that's just the way the world works.
