I've been a huge fan of Michael Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser from PTI for a decade. They are, at least to me, the pinnacle of sports journalism. Their show revolves around bells and whistles, but the commentary itself is pure and compelling enough so that they don't have to rely on overreaction or false hype to get you to watch. Wilbon is now writing for ESPN and it's everything one would hope for. Watching basketball in mid-January is a take the teams as they are proposition. Every team has injuries; every team has off nights and moments of brilliance; and unless we're talking about the '96 Bulls, you're not going to see impeccable consistency. A victory doesn't mean that one team is better than an opposing team, and a loss isn't the end of the season. I thought last night's game was thrilling taking the teams as they are. A victory doesn't mean all that much in the grand scheme of things. The Bulls were coming off a traveling back-to-back; the Heat were playing away; Noah and James were both out, though one has to wonder if Wade would have played so brilliantly had Lebron started. Last night was about Wade verse Rose in a bubble and they both were brilliant. If there is anything to take away from the game, it's that the real and only travesty in Lebron and Rose joining the same team is that you lose the match up. Their skills are just too similar and you lose these special nights when Rose battles Wade one and one, or when Wade battles Lebron for that matter. Anyway, on to Wilbon.
