Not to overstate the obvious, but unless the O's collapse we are down to the WC option. Looking at the remaining schedule for us, Jays, Detroit/KC, and Seattle.... The Yanks are still going to need 90 wins. We can't seem to get beyond 6 games over 500.

Thunderstorms have enveloped the St. Petersburg area since 4 AM, reminding me of the CCR Song gloomy. The Yankees are in for a series in a place where they have performed poorly since the 2010 season. Girardi has done a fine job with this team considering the ups and downs but I think the handwriting is just about on the wall unless the Yankees find a way to win. Joe G may have "faith in his guys" but thus far his wealthy charges have not responded in the manner expected. The New York Yankees playing scared instead of taking charge because players can not perform assigned or implied tasks. This team on paper is better than the '13 unit but at the current rate of play they will finish with less wins than last year.

Hoping to see this flawed team continue to bust so cashman is fired. Worst thing that could happen i o is sneak in to 2nd wildcard and cashman extended. Sounds like Hal may be ready to finally give him the boot.

...can't imagine someone hoping for their team just to get the GM fired.

Last year they went 85-77, they MIGHT be able to match that but its not looking good for them to get enough wins to get the 2nd WC spot

    With 43 games remaining (20 @home & 20 on the road)

    ( * DENOTES DIVISION LEADERS)

    1) Orioles.................69-50...................___
    2) Royals.................66-54...................___
    3) A's......................73-48...................___
    4) Angels.................70-49...................___
    5)Tigers..................65-54..................___
    6) Mariners...............65-55..................1/2
    7) Jays.....................63-59.................3 1/2
    8) Yankees...............61-58...................4
    9) Indians................60-60..................5 1/2
    10) Rays...................60-61....................6

Now lets see what direction we go in. Hopefully Girardi could tweek the line up a little by putting Ichiro in right & having Prado at 2nd while Drew collects splinters in his worthless ass.

If their defense continues to miscue, how do you expect the
pitching to overcome their horrible play. Not to mention, this
team cannot score runs. I'd say that is the ingredients of a
    non playoff team.

Early in the season I posted that a Beltran, Ellsbury, and McCann arrivals would negate the Cano departure. Beltran has overall been a disappointment, McCann great with the staff, disappointing at the plate, Ellsbury short of the home run total he'd been thought to reach. Solarte flashed in the pan, Roberts and Johnson were total busts. In the meantime Cano goes to Seattle finding that his team has a good chance for reaching the finals. Really disgusting to see the Yankees flounder as they have for the past two seasons, Hal & Hank need to find some qualified "Baseball Minds" to oversee the Yankees or sell them to a group who will. In not the NY on the players caps will always be initials for Next Year.

Current trajectory looks like Boston gets to see Jeters last games.

Sadly Cashman isn't going anywhere. The team needs a slugger or else you're going to see the same crap next year. Guys just doing better is not going to cut it. Especially when Jeter is going to be gone.

For some reason beyond anyone's understanding the Stiener boys love Cashman. Why? is anyone's guess. So I don't think he's going anywhere.

This thread should be titled Wildcard or cashman is outta here as rumors out there have Hal finally starting to sour on cashman.

Finally? Interesting. I've not been in the dump Cashman camp, nor overly rah-rah. I have understood his philosophy and general strategy. But it doesn't appear that select add ons are going to enable the postseason ride after the core 4 are all gone. In fact this is the 2nd year this strategy has failed to produce a team capable of alds appearance. Cashman did a nice job maintaining things, but over the last decade one can easily say that GMs from Texas, Detroit, Boston, Oakland, San Francisco and St. Louis have been much better.

I'm not sure that Cashman has the skill set to rebuild a franchise. That said, it will be interesting if Girardi has the managerial talent and patience to lead a clubhouse as opposed to manage it. With Jeter gone and more youngsters/less vets, does Joe have Maddon/Show alter skills? 2015 will be rare territory for franchise and fan base alike.
