NEW YORK -- Lenny Wilkens added Mark Aguirre and Dick Helm to his coaching staff Friday prior to his first game with the New York Knicks.

Aguirre was hired as a developmental coach two weeks ago by team president Isiah Thomas, and Helm worked with Wilkens in Toronto, Atlanta, Cleveland and Seattle.

Aguirre and Helm will sit on the bench along with assistant coaches Herb Williams and Michael Malone, holdovers from Don Chaney's staff. Malone is the son of Brendan Malone, one of two assistant coaches fired along with Chaney on Wednesday.

Pretty solid staff. Mark was a decent player back in the day. I liked him.

I have a feeling he is going to become the coach of the Knicks once Lenny decides to give the job up maybe in like 2 years. Isaih added him to the coaching staff, so he can learn under Lenny. Aguirre has an excellent relationship with thomas & he has been at every knick home game since Isiah became GM & VP, seems like they are working on something for the future.
