he started showing flashes in Orlando, and he put up decent numbers last year. I was wondering if anyone felt he would live up to being a lottery (not saying number 2 because of the obvious talent that was passed up) pick. He is still very young at 23, which is usually like a 2nd-3rd year player.
I don't think he'll live up to those expectations, but he is still young and has a lot of natural talent. The knock on Darko has been his work ethic and lack of passion to play basketball. Unless he's willing to commit to the game and dedicate his offseason to improving and developing, he'll always be considered a bust and one of the worst draft picks of all time. Especially when you consider the players drafted after him. I was hoping the Knicks pulled the trigger on the Zach Randolph trade with Memphis. D'Antoni would have been an ideal coach for Darko because he connects with international players and Darko wouldn't have a lot of pressure during the Knicks rebuild.
Ummm....what? On topic...I don't think he'll ever develop into the player he was supposed to be, though I do think he'll end up being a solid big. He's got the talent and physical tools, just lack of desire. If he could get a coach to push him and make him give a damn, he'd be a hell of a player.
maybe he will develop man boobs. on topic....i think he will get really good as soon as he is in a contract year.
Darko will never be better than an Average center whether he dedicates himself or not. Which isn't a bad thing, he shouldn't have been drafted at #2. Dumars has nobody to blame but himself, how could you pass on Carmelo Anthony at #2 that year?
