I've been thinking, and I hope he doesn't just turn out to be one of those guys that has to take alot of shots to get his, and who has to have the ball to be effective. Right now, he is that kind of player. I hope something clicks up there and he realizes he's not the man anymore, that he has to be part of a team offense. that means moving without the ball, setting screens, PASSING. I hope he gets it soon.
Well, as of right now, yes Gerald Green is a 1-on-1 scorer. But later on in his career, learning from Paul Pierce, I am confident that he will learn to play within the team. He is a smart kid, and he's a hard worker. Those 2 things together in one person usually produce. Gerald is never going to put up 30/6/6 like T-Mac, but he will improve. Doc doesn't like having a bunch of 1-on-1 scorers, the main reason why Ricky is wearing another jersey. I think it would be foolish for Gerald not to take advantage of his athleticism and talent. If he excecutes that properly, Gerald will be a good all-around player. He can rebound alright, and maybe it's just based on his freakish athleticism, but hey he is always crashing the offensive glass. Even if he won't be able to grab it off the rim and throw it down, he always makes the effort. That's step one. Once he adds more size and maturity, he will get in there even more. Right now, if I'm Doc, I run him through drills playing off the ball in practice. Make him come off screens, run a give and go as both the reciever and the passer, pick and pops, etc. Teach him the funadmentals of team basketball all over again. Remember, he's only played 2 years of high school ball. But as of right now, for the time he is on the court, let him play to his strengths. Doc did this last year, and he did a great job with Gerald. He didn't let him rot all year long, and he also didn't pressure him to do too much. He let him get his feet wet and play his game to his strengths - scoring. That's what should happen this year as well, but push him harder in practices/workouts. But I'll tell you what: Come 07-08 Gerald Green will be ready to produce in the rotation, and his all around game will improve. By then he will learn to play within the team as well as playing to his strengths at the same time. Once he gets that, mixed with a little hard work and dedication, he will succeed on both ends of the floor and this kid could turn out to be something very special.
If you mean, will he become a chucker, then no. He has a great talent to driving to the hoop, and that will really help the Celtics in the future. I dont see him being a guy who will only settle for shots. His style of play will be helpful and efficient to the Celtics in the near future.
Gerald Green is the next Tracy McGrady. He's not ever going to be a team player and a team leader and he'll never be able to lead his team to victory but he will average solid statistics. Green has to develop his basketball iq more and he doesn't understand the game of basketball and the right way to play the game like most players out of high school don't. I love his dunks but they're not going to make his team any better and he needs to realize that it's not about being flashy but about getting the job done.
Hes more of a VC type player when he gets older. He can score and has range. If he sharpens up his D I see a monster in the future
