that goes without saying but the question was about if his speech will have effect on dame... this is the first time after dirk that we have seen this type of thing happen and its fresh in dames memory (he wasnt even in the league when dirk won the chip in 2011)
I have a great respect for Giannis for staying in Milwaukee. Now thats loyalty! I was in Milwaukee when they drafted him and the team took a lot of heat from fans for doing so. Dame just got a taste of what it will be like win he wins one here.
I was in Milwaukee when they drafted Glenn Robinson #1 and I remember when they drafted Dirk and traded him. They blew it with Jabari Parker too.
I think this could probably go either way for one, it will convince Dame that it's possible....but I think he already knows it's possible. And seeing it happen for Giannis would make Dame want the same, even more than he does but if Dame has little confidence in Olshey or ownership...and I think that's exactly where he's at...seeing it happen in Milwaukee could sour him even more on his 9 years under Stolshey. NBA players are as aware of missed opportunities as are fans.
Dame can see past the bullshit. Olshey knows he can't bring weak stuff to Dame. I've got to believe, Neil has pride to do everything he can to be successful. Neil made some bad signings, for sure, but he also made some good, and to a point, he's been a little snake bit. LaMarcus thinking the grass was greener. Nurk's injury when the team was beginning to become a force to be reckoned with. Ariza's family situation. But Bullshit talks, he has to get it done.
Hard to play armchair psychologist with a guy like Dame and in a situation like this one, but I'd hazard a guess that it's probably helpful for us in the short term, but only ramps his desire to win one even more in the long (which, if Neil does what we all expect him to, will be unhelpful). Giannis and Dame are close, which likely means they'll talk in the offseason, and its not hard to draw parallels to their situations. In my mind, seeing Giannis do it in Milwaukee probably convinces Dame to give it one more run in Portland, and to do everything he can to force Neil's hand in improving the roster. Possibly/hopefully, he also ramps up his own recruitment of players -- that's certainly been an issue in the past as well. Once Neil falls short, however, I think it'll be a death sentence to Dame's PDX tenure. How ownership is not getting a LOT more heat about any of this is the disturbing part to me...
I still think Dame was happy with Stott's and didnt want to part with CJ. At what point should a gm give into star players, on the way up or once they have arrived?
Giannis just made a list of teams he wanted to be traded to last off season... then the team made the Jrue trade and then the guy signed a supermax extension. I'm sure Dame is hoping the same tactic works but don't paint Giannis... in his seventh season to be some ride or die that Dame isn't. Get your facts straight... again.
How ownership is not getting a LOT more heat about any of this is the disturbing part to me...[/QUOTE] - BINGO it 100% starts there!
Wasn't the same thing being talked about in Milwaukee just a year ago, though? Lot of media hype that Giannis was going to bolt because they couldn't win.
Just heard a radio commentator asked the question "if Dame is a Super Star what does that make Giannis"? It makes him the Greek Freak of a Super Star & some, now.
I'm not finding the articles or tweets but in early to mid September there were rumors that he had a list of teams and Miami was at the top of it, the Warriors were on it and their was a "secret team". After Giannis actually signed the extension Chris Haynes who obviously has some credibility issues reported that we were the "secret team". The fact is there were a lot of reports that Giannis was saying get better or I'm leaving in free agency and it was reported that the Bucks would not have let him walk like he was LaMarcus Aldridge or something.
