I re-read this article this morning...........all of the things Jeff said going into the LVSL and just had to shake my head. Caused me to wonder if he'll be nothing more than a bit player in his career...........then, more expediently, caused me to wonder if the Blazers shouldn't just go ahead and package him in a deal towards getting a "real" backup PF into town.............(albeit, using those same services of Camby notwithstanding....) http://blog.oregonlive.com/behindblazersbeat/2010/07/trail_blazers_jeff_pendergraph.html
I'd say the odds are heavily against Jeff ever being a regular '8 man rotation' kind of player, he's too stiff, he's too old and ultimately just a little too small to be much more than he currently is, which is a whirlwind of energy, 6 hard fouls and a war dance leader. Nice guy, but still ultimately nothing much more than a scrub.
23 is to old to make something of himself in the NBA? If he gets some nice minutes he will probably be a good 15 to 20m energy guy. His big problems are his tendency to foul which can be attributed to his trying to out muscle people instead of us his quickness to get position, something that with playing time he'll work out. His ball handling isn't that great either, but from what you want him to do, which is get garbage buckets and go for every rebound he can, you can overlook that.
Correct. Chicago would NEVER do that trade. As to Pendy, it looks more and more like he will have a short stint in the NBA. However, with 15-man rosters he has a bit more of a chance to see a second NBA contract. The one thing that makes me pause is that summer league is nothing more than a semi organized pick-up game. Some players excel at that and some don't. The NBA league games are a lot different and perhaps- just perhaps- his game is better suited for that. He is a hustle player and he can bang. Maybe we can get some good work out of him.
Or, perhaps............. Camby, Rudy, Bayless, and Pendy for Noah, Gibson, and a Chicago 1st Rounder I'm sure Cho's whiz-bang trade application is coming up with all the permutations, though..............
I would say the majority of mid to late 1st round picks end up being second team players. The majority of second round players (if they make it) are the "scrubs'. But you still need scrubs on every team.
You don't NEED scrubs... the reality is that they just tend to fill up rosters because of lack of superior options. Pendergraph may be a scrub now, but he's a scrub with potential. In a couple of years, he hasn't improved out of the scrub stage, we should replace him with another player who's got the potential to be more than a scrub. Ed O.
Pendo is about as bad as it gets offensively in the NBA. I watched SL hoping that he would have improved some part of his game on the offensive end. But he didn't, he was absolutely horrible. Good energy guy. Nice guy for hard fouls, but definitely not someone I want to count on to produce.
Step 1: Demonstrate a well defined NBA skill Step 2: Add additional skills Step 3: Become a high quality well rounded NBA player JP tried step 2 this summer league, and showed he needs to finish step 1 first. His well defined NBA skill is rebounding. His next skill should be improving his man and team defense. If he does that, he'll be a capable rotation player. I think that's possible for him, but I don't expect step 3 out of him in his NBA career.
