<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Isiah Thomas has yet to speak with Toronto about small forward Eric Williams, who has publicly asked for a trade. But Thomas is expected to make an inquiry before the Feb. 24 trading deadline. Thomas looked into Williams when the Newark native was a free agent last summer. Williams signed with the Nets in a three-year, $12 million deal, most of the mid-level exception. Williams, 32, is not the young piece Isiah craves. But he can get him cheap, for Jerome Williams, a former Toronto fan favorite.</div> New York Post _________________ This is a tough move for us. Eric Williams provides a great defensive intensity while giving us the leadership that we desperately need. I would love someone like this to be a Knick but, I do not want to see Jerome Williams gone. What should we do about this? This is definitely a tough one. Jerome Williams gives us a lot of hustle. Not saying Eric Williams doesn?t but, the effort along with his attitude makes him one of the great hustlers of the game today. He doesn?t care about scoring points, or anything like that, he does his job and accepts his role and is very happy about it too. He called himself a go-to role player. That?s what we need right now. What he does on the court (and because of his interests) got him the name, the Junk Yard Dog. I have no idea what to do. I don?t think I would give up Jerome Williams though, even for Eric Williams. We lose his hustle, and plus we lose a couple of inches too. Eric Williams I heard can play some undersized power forward but of course he is at a disadvantage a lot because of that. He will greatly improve our perimeter defense too. Imagine a mixed line up of Marbury, Williams, JYD, Kurt Thomas and Mohammed! That would win us games right there. It has a nice balance of offense and defense. I think it is in our best interest to keep JYD and try and get Eric Williams another way. We need all of the defense we can get and all the size for that matter too. Who should we trade to get Williams? I don?t really see anything being available to interest Toronto. No picks (we need it!!!), no young players (don?t even think about Ariza or Sweetney!!!) Maybe Jamison Brewer or someone can stir some interest. Anyway, in my opinion losing Jerome Williams is a huge. We lose size, a little hustle, a great attitude and a crowd favorite. Yes we get a leader, a great defensive player for a relatively cheap price but, come on for Jerome??? I don?t like the idea. JYD was great for us and was at many times the catalyst in sparking runs for us. We should keep him and try and find another way in getting Eric Williams without giving up JYD.
I would have to say trade Ariza is funny. Not just because i said it but because you obviously haven't seen Tim Thomas play if you dont think he's nice
No way in heaven and hell will the Raptors take back Jerome Williams' contract!! The way the Raptors are rebuilding can not allow them to stack up more bad contracts that will hold them tight in the future. Eric Williams is a more tradable assesst that Jerome, so I'd be really shocked if this trade happened.
actually u know what! why not give us JYD and Bruno and we will give u Williams and a 1st or 2nd round pick or even aaron williams??? New York trades: PF Jerome Williams (4.7 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 0.6 apg in 16.3 minutes) C Bruno Sundov (1.6 ppg, 0.9 rpg, 0.1 apg in 4.7 minutes) New York receives: PF Aaron Williams (1.6 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 0.3 apg in 7.3 minutes) SF Eric Williams (8.5 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 1.8 apg in 26.9 minutes) Change in team outlook: +3.8 ppg, +0.5 rpg, and +1.4 apg. Toronto trades: PF Aaron Williams (1.6 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 0.3 apg in 7.3 minutes) SF Eric Williams (8.5 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 1.8 apg in 26.9 minutes) Toronto receives: PF Jerome Williams (4.7 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 0.6 apg in 16.3 minutes) C Bruno Sundov (1.6 ppg, 0.9 rpg, 0.1 apg in 4.7 minutes) Change in team outlook: -3.8 ppg, -0.5 rpg, and -1.4 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED Due to New York and Toronto being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. New York and Toronto had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Wow, as much as I would love to accept that trade, Toronto would never do it. I would love to get a lottery pick from the Raptors.

Hi guys. Sorry I was out for so long I've been rather sick. Now I'm back. Anyway. This trade has been on my mind for a while. I've done my research and let me say that I am definently not a fan of this trade and what it brings to New York. Why trade Jerome Williams? He may not be playing so exceptionally as of late, but the man steps up the hustle of everyone on the floor, he has excitement and has some breakout games. Eric Williams can hardly say the same, he hasn't been much for NJ and he was less than outstanding for Boton as well. Salary doesn't play a huge role in my disproval of the trade, right about now I've pretty much given up on the Knicks getting out of salary cap hell, so I won't even bother discussing that element. This trade doesn't really benefit New York, I don't see why you trade a veteran leader for....Eric Williams. I don't understand the logic behind the trade, and if there is logic behind it, I don't want to know what it is because it probably wouldn't work for me. Just wait, Isiah. Just wait. I think all Knicks fans are willing to wait anywhere from around 10-15 years to get a championship so long as it eventually comes.

Not as much mind you, but he's much better on the offensive end with both post moves and range on his jumpshot extending to the 3. Also while I'd say JYD has the edge defensively on the block, i'd give the perimeter defence edge to EWill, so that might interest the Knicks, who are a horrible defensive team all around, but especially on the perimeter. And i'm not sure why you think he wasnt doing anything in New Jersey? You should try to watch some of the games if any reruns come on or something cause he was playing very well. 12.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2 assists per game on 47% shooting and 42.5% shooting from the 3.
I have a few Nets games taped. And yes, he has been performing nicely and everything. But please realize that New Jersey's offense has a more complex way of getting the ball in the basket. Frank has set up plays for every player on the floor. That is the main reason we see that Eric Williams is being so productive. Herb Williams has no set plays such as those, and what Jerome can't match with Eric on offense, I feel he makes up for on the defensive end. Let's face it, Eric Williams hustles, he's a real player - fights for loose balls and can really get a rally going. But Jerome Williams is famous for it, he's even a household name. The folks here in New York love the guy, one of the only things we look forward to when watching a game. I wouldn't want to lose that.
