"As good as they were the first two games, they looked just as bad this time out.

The Red Wings will forget about this outcome, Tuesday's 5-4 shootout loss to Colorado, as quickly they can.

Facing a team that had played the evening before, the Wings nonetheless were outplayed and outworked the majority of the night.

The Wings still managed to send the game into overtime, then a shootout. But in the sixth round of the shootout, after neither side had scored, the Avs' Brandon Yip beat Jimmy Howard for the winning goal.

"The whole thing was disappointing," coach Mike Babcock said. "We weren't as good as we should have been. Our work ethic wasn't up to their work ethic. They were quicker and harder on the puck than we were."

Usually the Wings are the team that jumps on a road team playing its second game in two nights.

Not this time. Colorado outshot the Wings 9-4 in the first period, and came away tied at 1."
