Straight from one of the Miami papers regarding the new coaches. "...But Collier lacks the big-picture experience of Turner, and because of that, it might be difficult for him to overrule the conservative instincts of Wannstedt." Yeah, like Norv, was anywhere near successful @ that. ''I believe that you throw the ball to score points in this league and you run the ball to win,'' Wannstedt said Monday, summing up his philosophy." But Dave, Don't you have to score more points than the opponent to win? Bottom line; I have mixed feelings about Spielman & think Wanny should have been shown the door. Marino may not have the last word but he has the right attitude & the ear and trust of the owner who does make the final decision.
I think the most important role Marino will fill this year is being a source of accountability for Spielman. My main concern with Spielman being GM was that Teflon Dave would use their relationship to try and manipulate Spielman and keep Spielman from making the moves that need to be made. It has to be tough to answer to a guy one year, and then be his boss the next, as is the case with Spielman and Wannstedt. Rick, being a nice guy, may have taken Dave's wants to heart to try and not rock the boat and to help sooth Dave's feelings, but now there's someone who will cut through all that and that's Marino. I agree with the points you raised, BA. Dave should have been fired. If your going to promote Spielman to GM, I think it only makes sense to fire Wannstedt. Personally, I would have rather had Randy Mueller as GM, but I think Spielman might end up doing a good job.

That's funny. I believe it was Casey Stengel who said "Good pitching always beats good hitting and vice-versa".

Who knew Wannstedt would be as comical as Casey Stengel or Yogi Berra for that matter. About this time, next year, Vanilla Dave's severance package will be cash which is just as good as money.
