Wisconsin Herd Strikes Gold with Win over Grand Rapids

    Tremont Waters set a team and career high earning 31 points. Lindell Wigginton had a season-high 27 points and Wenyen Gabriel also recorded a season-high of 26 points. Wenyen Gabriel also had a team-high and personal season-high of 16 rebounds. The Herd posted a season-high 131 points.

    Nik Stauskas led the Gold with 33 points and Lance Stephenson added 28 points. The Gold scored 127 points which is a season-high record for points scored against the Herd.

    The Herd made a 17-point comeback to win the game against the Grand Rapids Gold. In the fourth quarter, Wenyen Gabriel made a three-point play to take the lead 122-121 with 3:51 left in the fourth quarter. The teams went back and forth resulting in six lead changes until the Herd pulled away to win by four.

    Wenyen Gabriel came out hot in the first quarter scoring seven of the Herd's first points. Lindell Wigginton led the Herd setting a new team-high for first-quarter points with nine points. The Gold led at the first quarter 46-40, a new high for both teams. The Gold scored 46 points setting an opponent high for points scored in one quarter against the Herd. The Herd scored 40 points in the first quarter, setting a new team-high for points scored in the first quarter.

    High scoring continued for both teams throughout the rest of the first half, setting two new Herd records. The Gold led the Herd 85-71 at the half, setting a new season record for opponent points scored in the first half against the Herd. The Herd scored 71 points, setting a new season-high for points scored in the first half.

    Four Herd players scored double digits in the first half including Tremont Waters (18), Lindell Wigginton (17), Wenyen Gabriel (11) and Javin DeLaurier (10). Lindell Wigginton went 100% (5/5) from the three-point line in the first half while Javin DeLaurier went 100% (5/5) for field goals in the first half. The Gold had two players with 20+ points

    Rayjon Tucker scored 13 points in the third quarter to help the Herd close the gap from being down 14 at the half. The Gold led at the third quarter 109-102.

    The Herd will play away against the Grand Rapids Gold in the second game of the back-to-back series on Saturday night with tip-off at 6:00 p.m. CST.
