<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Antawn Jamison caught Washington Wizards president of basketball operations Ernie Grunfeld's eye when he averaged 24.9 points and 8.7 rebounds during the 2000-01 season. He did it again two seasons later when he had 22.2 points and 8.7 rebounds in his last season with the Golden State Warriors.
But more than anything else, it was what Jamison did last season in Dallas while posting the second-lowest scoring average (14.8) of his career that really got Grunfeld's attention and sold him on the forward, who this year became the Wizards' biggest offseason acquisition.
Jamison volunteered to come off the bench so there would be no bickering on a Dallas team with All-Star forwards Dirk Nowitzki and Antoine Walker. Jamison displayed humility and maturity while sacrificing personal numbers for the team.
"Antawn is a starter in this league," Grunfeld said. "Look at what he's done during his career. Last year he showed his unselfishness by coming off the bench. You don't see too many players like that. ... That's why we think he is such a positive addition to our ballclub." </div>

Do you think he can lead this team like Grunfeld wants him to? Im not sure if he can do that because he had a tough time with Warriors. Yea Im sure he'll probably average around his usual 20 some ppg and 8 rpg but will that be enough to carry the Wizards on to the playoffs? What do you guys think?

I think he will have a lot of Help from a more Mature Gilly, a buffed up Kwame, and Larry. This team is a playoff team when healthy wether you like it or not, I think we will be in the playoffs with the 7th seed, and honestly..I think we are only missing 1 or 2 peices to be a serious contender...one of those pieces is Kwame..if he can pan out like we want him too, we will be contenders I believe.

I meen who else is going to lead the team? Gilbert is injury prone, and Kwame is going to miss the start of the season. I think he finally cought the eyes of the observers, and boy did it take long enough, I am the biggets Jamison fan out there. And I'm glad to see a team finally wants him in the leadership role, where he belongs.

    Gilbert is injury prone? HAHAHA!

Where did you get that from, he had an abdominal and groin injury one year and now he's injury prone?
Not trying to provoke, but that was way off bad, Marcus Camby is injury prone, Arenas just got injured last year and tried to play through it.

OG is right,Arenas suffered one injury last year, and still played through it prety well.I remember in a game vs the Sixers he made a gw backboard three on them :bigcry.

But I wonder if Jamison could actually lead a team?Despite puting up good stats in Golden State he really didnt lead his team to that many victories,or to the playoffs or anything. But maybe he could prove people like me wrong, because the Warriors deffiantly do have a tougher division then the Wizards do.So maybe AJ and the Wiz can have a chance to suprise people this year.

I bealive Jamison has the potential to lead a franchise to glory,he seems to be mature enough and we all know he can produce, but you just have to wait and see what happens.

Honestly..If Jamison was alone, I dont think he would be able to do it..He isnt a team leader, that is why we need to have him surrounded by talent (Arenas, Brown, Hughes) and if EJ wants him to be the focal point of the Offense..so be it, he will produce..but if he didnt have Hughes or Brown, just Arenas..I think the Wizards would be heading for another top 5 pick.

If he could put up 24 and 8 in the West, than he can dominate the East IMO.

I guess I'm a little biased, oh well. But I love the guy, he's my favorite player.

He'll do great, but he's no Dwyane Wade [IMG] Hahah... anyways...

I think he'll be able to lead this team... the Wizards will break out this season... them and the bulls will finally break out of their young shells this season and contend for the playoff seeds....

Jamison will put up similar stats as he had in Golden State. He is not in the offensive glut that he was in Dallas. This was a great acquistion for the Wizards even if it did cost them their 1st round pick. They got rid of Stackhouse amd his questionable health status and got a solid player. He doesn't get the credit that he deserves because he wasn't put into a wining situation but, now in Washingon him and Gilbert can sneak into the playoffs in a year or so.
