    Wizards ink Samaki Walker

Washington, DC (Sports Network) - The Washington Wizards Wednesday signed veteran forward Samaki Walker to a contract. As per team policy, terms of the deal were not released.

Walker, who has played with the Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat during his eight-year career, averaged 3.2 points and 3.4 rebounds per game last season with the Miami Heat.

The 28-year-old Walker, who won an NBA title with the Lakers in 2002, played just 33 games with the Heat after suffering from injury.

The Louisville product has averaged 5.5 points and 4.9 boards in 424 career games.

"Samaki Walker will provide our team with very good depth in the frontcourt," said general manager Ernie Grunfeld. "And perhaps the most important assets he brings to our team will be his veteran leadership and playoff experience, both of which will be very valuable to our young players."

Walker was originally selected by the Dallas Mavericks with the ninth overall pick in the 1996 NBA Draft,

more depth for the frontcourt.... hope that doesnt mean kwame's foot wont heal fast.

Good pick up, you guys needed someone to replace Thomas. He's not as good but will suffice. It's good to see a team like the wiz trying to get better

Nice signing, it was because Kwame has a broken foot..He should serve as a servicable bigman who can be an extra body we can throw in the mix..

    Thomas isn't gone???
Anyways, he's a decent pickup, the team is solidifying the inside presence, and I think all these signings mean Jamison will not be playing PF with Kwame at C.
