"This has a shot now," Bill Neff said. "Two days ago I didn't feel that way."

It appears the Wolves have offered a deal that starts near the $5.1 million midlevel exception. The Wolves apparently want a five-year deal, Hudson six. But Neff said he would consider a five-year deal.

? How things go with Hudson will have an effect on the Wolves' ability to re-sign free agent Trenton Hassell.

The Wolves can offer up to the midlevel amount to Hudson without having to use that salary cap exception, which would allow them to dedicate that money elsewhere.

If they cannot sign Hudson, they presumably would need to use that exception to sign his replacement.

Mark Bartelstein, Hassell's agent, said Denver was one of a number of teams that have expressed an interest in Hassell.

Neff would not give specifics, but it appears the deal could go as long as six years and would be based on giving Hudson the full, $5.1 million mid-level exception -- if he can stay healthy. That could mean a deal, over six years, worth between $37 and $38 million.

Neff said the two sides agreed on language that would take into account any concerns over Hudson's surgically repaired ankle, and that Hudson's pay would change if he doesn't play a predetermined number of games.

It's basically done. The league needs to approve it, as does Glen but after that, it's a done deal.

Now McFlip can get Trenton & Freddie signed to extensions, with Trenton being our first priority. After that, count on them to explore some trade options if they feel the need for upgrading the rest of the roster.

BTW, KG's fingerprints are all over this deal. Without KG's lobbying for THud's return, it wouldn't have happened. I suspect that KG also had a little talk with THud about giving a bone to McFlip with the triggers for a guaranteed 6th year if he played a certain number of games in a set year. I can't remember if it's in his first couple years or if it's his 4th year but it's part of the contract. That's also why the league will review this contract a little closer than most contracts.
