First off, it was a great game. Loved almost every second of it. It was exciting and there was a dunk almost every time down the court. But the reason why us Wolves fans watched it was because we had 3 guys there representing us. First, we had the defending All-Star MVP and the leader of the MVP polls as of right now representing us in Kevin Garnett. Garnett scored the first points in the game off of a miss from Yao Ming. KG finished with 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. Second, we had a first time All-Star point guard who is 34 years old. Sam Cassell is the second oldest player to be named to his first All-Star game. And he didn't do half bad either. Cassell finished with 4 points and 7 assists. Not bad for a first timer. Thirdly, we had another first time All-Star. But he was the coach. Flip Saunders, who is doing a great job with the new look Wolves, called great plays close to the end of the game. He knew what to do, and I don't think any other coach would have handled that any better. Going with Tim Duncan was a good idea, because he was matched up with Jamaal Magloire. Duncan banked it in, and gave the West the lead for good. Good call, Flip! It was a great day for Wolves fans all over. Recap Box Score
Don't forget the assistant coaches. But I was just massively impressed by the coaching job that Flip Saunders did last night. I was expecting more out of Garnett, but he still did well. And Cassizzle was definitely enjoying his first time.
I was telling my boy on friday that I would be happy if Sam just got a couple of baskets & around 5 assist. Well he finished with more assist then I asked for so Iam happy with his performance. I knew it was going to be hard for sam to get up any shots with all the high profile weapons the west have. But I was just happy watching Sam livin it up on the sidelines on All-star Sat. night & during the game on/off the court on Sun. Sam threw a couple of good pass but some of the plays werent completed. but its all good. Much love to Sam & KG for making all-star weekend fun for me to watch. Also K-mart & J.Kidd. I had alot of cats to route for this year.
Now this is great, 3 members of one great team, one great community. They are a true embodiment worth of admiration. Both the staff and the players. It just clicks so well there. It's not more of the case of team chemistry, but rather of community chemistry. Cassell and KG continued to show their skills on the court and how well they play, as well as how well they work together and with other people. An ability like that is only worthy of all-stars, these being them. Saunders, now he is just such a great coach. He knows players, he knows the game, but above all he knows how to adapt life into the game. He knows how people work, rotation, skills, time and the need for people to know that they're loved and used. He knows just that, and he does it well. Very well done and deserving, one of the best damn coaches ever!
Flip really showed how great of a coach he is. He didn't try to get KG and Cassell a lot of minutes and he mades ure everyone got plenty of action. He made some great calls a locked in coach of the year IMO.
I was impressed by Flip... he played the right players... and I am sure he made Shaq happy letting him go for the MVP. Glad to see Cassell on the team... I was rooting for him to throw some alleys.
I was really impressed by Flip and how he chose the right plays. He didn't just put KG and Sam in the game he let everyone play.He chose the right players at the right time.Like when he went to Duncan for the bank shot.He is one of the best coach in the league. And KG had a good game and Sam too.A good game for a first timer.
