    Sharapova Finding Her Form

Maria Sharapova showed flashes of the game that has seen her win three Grand Slam titles and signs of the game that has seen her lose early in her last two events on Monday at the Internationaux de Strasbourg. Nevertheless, she is through to the round of 16 after her 63 36 61 victory over fellow Russian Regina Kulikova.

"I played a pretty good opponent today," said Sharapova, the No.1 seed this week. "I was put in a situation where I had to come through when my opponent was playing well. Regina has a similar game to mine - big first serve, hits pretty big and attacks - I played well enough to win. It was a high quality match, especially for a first round."

    Sharapova reaches quarterfinals in Strasbourg

Top-seeded Russian Maria Sharapova took a quick win in her second-round match Wednesday, while several seeded players were knocked out at the $220,000 Strasbourg International, a final French Open tune-up.

The former world No. 1 defeated Bulgarian qualifier Dia Evtimova, 6-3, 6-0, in just more than an hour to reach the quarterfinals. Sharapova will next face German Julia Goerges, who toppled sixth-seeded Austrian Sybille Bammer, 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) on the red clay here.

    King stays on course

American Vania King edged closer toward claiming the second WTA title of her career when she moved into the semi-finals of the Internationaux Strasbourg with a straight sets win over Anastasia Rodionova.

The in-form King, who defeated second seed Elena Vesnina in the first round, kept the upper-hand throughout in a game marred by weak serving, and held her nerve to move through 6-4 7-5.

    Sharapova Shines In Strasbourg

It was better late than never this week for Maria Sharapova, who, despite being a late entry into the Internationaux de Strasbourg, went all the way to her second Sony Ericsson WTA Tour title of the year, beating first-time finalist Kristina Barrois in straight sets for it.

Sharapova's power game was challenged early against the tricky Barrois, who mixed in big forehands with topspin and slice off her beautiful one-handed backhand. But after escaping a 5-3 deficit in the first set Sharapova rolled, taking 10 of the next 11 games for a 75 61 victory. It was the second clay court title for Sharapova out of 22 overall - she won her first at Amelia Island in 2008.
