Safina returns to action in Stuttgart; Wozniacki fit to play as well

Ranking points are the last thing Dinara Safina has on her mind when she returns to court this week at the Porsche Grand Prix from back injuries.

"Who cares," the Russian told reporters on Monday. "Health is much more important."

Twelve months ago Safina had just climbed to the world number one ranking a week ahead of Stuttgart.

She had a chance to get that prestigious ranking for the end of the year, but back problems stopped her in her first match at the season-ender. Safina returned this year, only to retire at the Australian Open in late January and not play until this week.

Venus Williams out of Porsche Grand Prix

Venus Williams has been forced to withdraw from the Porsche Grand Prix due to a knee injury she had experienced at the Miami tournament.

In her email to the directors, she stated, "My doctors told me that I would need more time to make a full recovery from the injury. It's why I can't unfortuneatly make it to Stuttgart."

Henin, Stosur win; Wozniacki out in Stuttgart

Justine Henin outlasted Belgian teammate Yanina Wickmayer 6-3, 7-5 Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Porsche Grand Prix.

Henin's path to the final was eased when top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki, still bothered by a sore ankle, lost 6-4, 6-4 to Lucie Safarova.

Henin took a 5-1 lead in the second set and twice served for the match but could not finish it off. Wickmayer tied it 5-5 before Henin won the next two games.
