From his website kb24.com <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">October 31 :: 2006 A note from Kobe I'm excited about this season. I can't wait to play. The energy of opening night is always special. We are beginning our journey. We will face many obstacles and challenges, but we will face them TOGETHER AS ONE. The excitement of tonight was beginning to cloud my judgment of playing, I want to play, BUT I am not there yet. I am rounding 3rd base and will be home SOON. Big thanks to all you, I love all the support. It helps fuel my drive. WE WILL STAY IN TOUCH, THIS IS MY HOME. AND MI CASA ES SU CASA. Enjoy the site. - Mamba </div> This really sucks, man.
We have to just except it and realize this is probably a smart decision by Kobe. I was optimistic about him being available on opening night, but he knows his body well and he doesn't feel he can go, he's probably still having a lot of pain in his knees. We just need to count on Mo Evans and the rest of the team to step up in Kobe's absence.

From what I have heard, his knee still isn't completely healed, and he is still experiencing pain. It's better for him to just rest it rather than to rush back. Smart decision by Kobe. It's only the first game of the season anyways. 80 more games to go
Im happy as well. I want a Kobe who is 100%. I wouldnt want him to reinjure himself at the cost of losing him the rest of the year. Its the beginning of the season, most games are at home, and I think our lineup will do fine to hold the homefront until Kobe is ready for the court.
Why are you upset? He's not ready, his knee isn't ready. Why would we want him to rush back? It'll only increase the risks of him re-injuring the knee and keeping him out longer.
