This season has been a huge disappointment considering the Nets bad record and Kidd "giving up" up on team, but does Kidd's number deserve to hang in the rafters? Call me a Kidd homer, or whatever, but I think his number should be retired. Try to remember what Kidd has done for us. He helped resurrect the franchise, and led us to two straight Finals appearances. I don't agree with some of the things he has done as a Net, but overall he has had an incredible impact on the NJ Nets. He's one of the greatest players EVER to wear a Nets uniform, don't forget that; just because things ended on a bitter note.

    Thoughts?

You have to. He changed the face of the franchise. What he did in the six and a half years here will overshadow what happened in the last six months in the end.

considering he's IMO the Nets biggest name of all time, and probably the one that did the most for the franchise, also bringing them closest to an NBA Title, I think you pretty much have to.

Number 5 should be retired the day Kidd retires. Nuff said.

If Erving gets it, Kidd gets it.

Not exactly the same circumstances, but Erving left because the Nets wouldn't/couldn't pay him...while Kidd left because the team sucked. And they couldn't/wouldn't play him.

Kidd's number should definitely be up there, right next to K-Mart's. Two Eastern Conference Championships led by those two All-Stars.

of course, he might the greatest Net of all time, or behind Dr. J. He took this team to two FInals appearances and was the best PG in the NBA during those two years... clearly, no other PG could even touch him, what is he 3rd all time in triple doubles?

This doesn't even need to be discussed. The second he retires it goes up there.

He's going to the HOF as a Net.

I would do the same as Toronto did with the number of the greatest Raptor ever, Vince Carter. They retired his number, right?

vince carters number should be retired but i wouldnt be surprised if it doesnt just for the fact that canadians still hate the guy, they have yet to get over it, it's ironic though because if they wanted him gone, why are they booing him? they still wish they had the old vince back.

heck, the canadian media and sportscastors take all the shots at vince as they can, constantly showing vids of vince getting hurt, maple leaf suckers dont want vince and the country is just as fickle

Wow this is pretty sad, it's came to the day where people are not sure if Kidd's number should be retired and there is a topic on it. I'm guessing some of you are new fans when Vince came over. It's a yes for sure. His number should be retired right away. For someone who said K-Mart, I loved him, but he is not going to get his number retired.

Well, to be fair, while there is a topic on it, there hasn't been a single person in the thread who thinks it shouldn't be hanging from the rafters.

And there's no doubt it needs to be retired. I still remember when I was in 6th grade and we went up to North Jersey for some type of class trip. When we passed CAA, all the guys on the bus started jumping up and down because it was the same night we were facing the Pacers in the first round of the playoffs. I'll never forget that night and I have Kidd to thank for it.

no doubt it should go up there but Players are always remembered more for their bad times. IMO he is a HOF'er easily but these last couple of months have been a shocker for Kidd IMO.

No doubt it needs to be retired. He brought us from the gutters up to respectability. Hell, for 2002 alone he should be considered, and for his MVP (Duncan stole it) year in 2003 tops it off. The second he retires, the ok should be given for No.5 to hit the rafters.
