So I was perusing another site and saw a serious thread started with this question, and I just had to get some input from the S2 guys so I'm starting it here.

Unfortunately if you guessed that a Cowboys fan came up with this idea, you'd be right :(

How did they figure out that 40 time? Sounds like that could be a flawed empirical conclusion.

Yeah it is. They just took his 100 or 200 time and divided it down to 40 which isn't right at all. Because Bolt is so big hes pretty slow out of the blocks and it takes him a while just to reach the leader then after that he separates.

Its interesting to think about but I don't think it would work at all. This dude has probably never run routes, plays, wore pads, etc. etc. Maybe even never caught a football before in his life. Who knows how he'd react to the physical play. He's just way too far behind the curve at this point to make it as a WR in the NFL.

3.5 is wrong....the 40 is a short distance race, you barely have time to get to a full stride....its way more about the start than the 100 or the 200....there are ways to time splits, so find his actual split time over the 1st 40 yards....im betting it wont be that impressive, something in the 4.3-4.4 area, which is blazing fast, but theres 50 football players in the NFL that ran that or better....if you were going to go after Bolt, why not go after Xavier Carter, who grew up playing football, played at LSU, and runs the 100 about .2 slower, which in football equates to no noticable difference....

I would want to know if he can catch anything. He can have all the speed in the world, but it won't matter if he can't catch anythinbg other than perhaps... a cold.

I'd like to know about his lateral quickness as well.

No, speed isn't close to everything as a WR. He needs to run routes, catch the ball under pressure, etc.

How much money do I have to spend? For a min. rookie deal, I'd be all over it. I will just teach him how to catch.

And he'd be nasty returning kicks.

There is no reason to think he would even be a decent kick returner....speed only helps a KR once he clears the coverage and you cant clear the coverage unless you are willing to go full speed into a seem and take the chance that someone is going to yoke the shit out of you....hes shown no reason to think he would be willing to take that fearless plunge....where he would dominate is on the track, where no one hits him and he just has to run from A to B as fast as he can....

He'd 6'5 as well, bear that in mind.

Worth remembering that Dwain Chambers tried out for the Miami Dolhpins and Castleford (I think) Rugby League team and failed at both.

    Anyone remember Randall Williams?

Speed aint everything. Or Williams woulda been a stud.

Though... he does hold the record for fastest TD ever.

Oh yeah lol, I actually do remember that guy. He supposedly had the fastest 40 in the league, IIRC. They tried to make him a returner but he failed.

They tried to make him a WR too. :)

    He had one route: fly.

Everything else was some of the worst route running I've witnessed. And then his hands.... bleh. Unbelievable physical talent.

    Little to no football talent.
