Would you trade BRoy if there were a taker?

I'd like to first state that BRoy ranks among my top five Blazers of all-time. But with his knee problems, would you trade him, simply to berid the team of his crippling contract?

Right now, I would trade BRoy for a team's number one pick and take back expiring contracts (provided they expired at the end of the 2011-2012 season) simply to make cap room for pursuing one of the 2012 free-agents.

I'd use the number one pick on the best available big (PF or Center) for insurance in case Oden never does pan out.

In 2012, I'd go hard for CP3 with the BRoy cap space we'd be freeing up.

What team(s) might gamble on BRoy? Would NJ give up their number one pick to unload other bad contracts? Doubtful. Would a team like Cleveland be interested in doing the same? Maybe! Antawn Jaimison + Pick for Roy?

It would be foolish for Brass to not trade him and I love Roy. Teams I think that could really use a player like him would #1 be Orlando. Take on their first rounder, Turk and Brass for Roy.

Roy wouldn't have to do as much and he would have some capable scorers on the team to dish out to. Also, frees up Howard too. They have enough capable guards to keep Roy at the 20-25 minute mark. Believe it or not, but if they had Nelson, Roy, Richardson, Bass and Howard; they would be a deadly group.

Could be a great way for them to keep Howard too.

Man that would add insult to injury for me. I could never forgive the organization if they did something like that. I could just see Roy pacing himself all season until he plays us. Dropping 30 in front of all of us fans, wearing the purple and piss! <<Thowing up now>>

It would be foolish not to trade him. In the long run, it would probably help the offense in the playoffs

the way this draft is rated and where Portland is picking, I could see them selecting a Euro to stash overseas with their 1st just to get out of having another guaranteed deal on the books. Then again they might want such a contract just for facilitating trade possibilities. Regardless, I think posters are placing much more on the value of this year's #1 then they probably should

to the OP.... unless a trading partner is far enough under the cap to absorb a contract you have to get back roughly equal dollars for whatever you're sending out. In the case of Roy, thats a lot of $$$. What are you suggesting Portland is taking back? An expiring? If so, yes please... even to the Lakers

Nobody right now is going to give us an expiring deal or deals and a #1 pick for brandon, IMO. I think we'd have to take back someone like Arenas, Rashard Lewis, etc.

I'm suggesting teams with expiring (or very soon to expire) contracts - as with Antawn Jaimison of Cleveland, for example. He'd service the team, but would expire at the end of the 2011/2012 season - opening salary cap for the pursuit of the 2012 free agent sweeps.

And I'm leaning toward the one remark that it may pay to trade Roy AND our number one pick in this year's draft, simply to get out of his contract!

I'd like to get something, but that is just homerism speaking.

As a bottom line, we really need to move Roy as the team's priority. And if I were GM, I'd be looking to do something along the lines of trading Roy with Oden - (may need a three-team scenario to pull this off) - to relieve the Blazers from this plague.

If both Roy and whatever we'd pay out to sign Oden were off the books, we could rebuild around Wallace / Batum / Matthews / Aldridge and go find our PG and Center. All other players on the current roster are tradable if a bigger picture (rebuild) can begin.

This. The only way you are going to trade him is giving a team something they want and making them swallow Broy's contract.

I think Dallas may bite, they are usually willing to take on big contracts to get what they want.

No, getting out from under Roy's contract = real cap space!

A late first rounder is not going to convince someone to take what's probably one of the worst contracts in the NBA...

What might Dallas have (of equal dollars to Roy's contract) that we could take back? Do they have expiring contracts? We don't want to be strapped with junk contacts that won't expire after one year - - otherwise, just gamble by keeping Roy and hope they come up with plastic menisci replacement parts!

Might even be a worthy investment by PA to fund this research! [plastic menisci parts]

How does that deal benefit the Magic at all? Hedo has a less horrendous contract, Bass is a pretty good forward and a first round pick is an asset. The Blazers would be robbing them blind.

I don't think its a very good plan. To get to CAP SPACE again - would require not resigning Oden, or Miller, Camby, etc. All to be able to OFFER ONE UFA contract for max $$. When was the last time we attracted great Free Agents??

Wes Matthews, Andre Miller, Brian Grant, Kenny Anderson, Rod Stickland is the list I come up with over the last 20 years. Not a stellar result.

I would be all for attempting to get any value for Roy that would actually contribute more on the court. But, I think we're stuck with whatever we get from him. There is little reason another team would trade for him. Maybe changes in the CBA will create this reason for another team. Amnesty anyone?

No I would not dump him just to get rid of his salary. Especially for the illusion of getting a top free agent. Late first round picks are worthless as well.

I would prefer to wait until I know for sure what the new CBA is. Yes he is making too much for his limited minutes, but I have the 4 QTR of game 4 taped, and he still looks like he is a decent player.
