Well, now the Heat are sending all indications that they are no longer in a win now mode, with letting Posey go to Boston.
So, would you sacrifice Tyrus for Shaq?
Bulls Trade: Tyrus Thomas, PJ Brown, Chris Duhon
Heat Trade: Shaquille O'neal
PG-Kirk Hinrich/Rent A' Point Guard (Troy Hudson, Earl Boykins, Devin Brown, Gary Payton, Steve Logan)SG-Ben Gordon/Thabo SefoloshaSF-Luol Deng/Andres NocioniPF-Ben Wallace/Joe SmithC- Shaquille O'neal/Joakim Noah/Aaron Gray
The team reminds me a lot of the Late 80's champions where they had good big men, but it was clearly a guard core pushing them through to the title.
87/88 Lakers- Magic Johnson, Byron Scott, James Worthy....Kareem was a shell of his former self (like Shaq now).
89/90 Pistons- Dumars, Dantley, and Thomas....Aguirre and Laimbeer in the front court.
Not sure if I would do it or not. It gives us a great team and probably makes us favorites to win the title. I think Deng, Gordon, Hinrich, and Nocioni are better complements to Shaq than Wade is. But it'd be hard to give up Thomas for such an old player, that you know will retire in 2 or so years.

You're comparing the final career numbers for Worthy with a guy who's game is quite similar but who has just started his career.
It could be Deng gets hurt and doesn't play another game. Assuming that doesn't happen, I wouldn't be surprised if Deng does make the all-star team 7 times. He did get five 1st place votes for the All-Defense team - I think the awards will come.
All the things you say about Worthy not being the #1 option for those lakers teams is just as true for Deng.
Comparing the numbers, Deng at 22:
Regular Season: 37 MPG, 51.7% FG, 78% FT, 7.1 RPG, 2.5 APG, 1.2 SPG 0.6 BPG, 18.8 PPG Playoffs: 41 MPG, 52.4% FG, 80.% FT, 8.7 RPG, 2.4 APG, 1.0 SPG, .7 BPG, 22.2 PPG
Worthy:
Age 22: 29.5 MPG, 55.6% FG , 75.9% FT, 6.3 RPG, 2.5 APG,0.9 SPG, 0.9 BPG, 14.5 PPG Career Avg: 32.4 MPG, 52.1% FG, 76.9% FT, 5.1 RPG, 3.0 APG, 1.1 SPG, 0.7 BPG, 17.6 PPG
Regardless of the numbers, the similarities on the court are evident if you've watched them both play.

Because 2 players might not finish with the same numbers and awards, that doesn't mean that they are not comparable or one is inferior to the others, as in the example of how Francis has been an All-Star starter how many times? Marbury really the best PG in the NBA?
I haven't seen enough of Deng to draw a conclusion based on what I think he would turn out to be, but I don't think comparing style of plays between players is unpopular, but other than that as how many times do we near people compared or labeled the next Jordan? It's not like Deng is a 8/9/10 year vet who hasn't shown an improving and growing game.
-Petey

Reading comprehension boys.

Deng - nothing yet

And saying they have similiar styles doesn't make a comparison either, which is my point. And even with that, Hinrich + Gordon still isn't anywhere near Magic & Byron, so it's moot.
