OK, here's the story: the first message board I ever started posting at was the old NBA LIVE message board back in 2003. Some awesome posters were also there....off the top of my head: aibanks3 (JBB's P.A.P.), GrnDynsty (Celtics fan, used to have a blog on JBB), og15 (old JBB'er) and chingy0007 (me and him have been all over the web together haha). Super-quality posts, great threads, whatever. We talked about the game but also about the NBA in real life and had great discussions. After a while though all the good posters migrated to JBB, and I went along as well. The Live boards slowly died. I would check them out once in a while, see if there's any reason to go back, but none of the old guys remained. Around one year later, I got a PM from P.A.P. : So obviously I went over there and they really did have a thread where they basically remembered all of us old posters as "legends". So, I posted a little and the guys really did treat me like a god (lol) so I kept posting every once in a while. One day I had a cool idea for a thread, where each poster would ask if "you would trade X for Y" and the next one would have to respond and add a "would you trade..." of his own. A short while after making the thread I left the LIVE boards for good. Nearly a year later, I was curious to see how well my thread did...890 replies and 8080 views in 11 months, and the thread was still on the forum's 2nd page. That may not seem like that much to you, but that board was pretty much dead...so I was surprised. After all that background info which probably bored you to death, the reason I made this thread was to see exactly how successful it can really be. Here are the rules from way back in '05, slightly changed (I actually found my post from back then): If anyone is extremely bored and actually got to this part of my post, here's the link to the original thread: http://159.153.234.89/mboards/thread.jspa?threadID=84627&start=0&tstart=0
No. T-Mac is way too injury prone at this stage and I don't think his body will allow him to perform at a high level for much longer. Vince, on the other hand, I can see staying at this level of play for a few more years. Would you trade Steve Nash for Jose Calderon and a 1st round pick?
No. The first wouldn't be very high, and the Sun's window is pretty small. Would you trade 2 First round picks, the first being protected, the second unprotected, 2 TEs, Diop, Devin Harris, Keith Van Horn's contract, and Mo Ager for Jason Kidd, Malik Allen, and Antoine Wright?
No way, Johnson is a bust. Boone proved to be much better than him. If you were the Celtics, would you trade Ray Allen for Michael Redd?
No, they just won a championship with Ray, i dont see mike fitting in the system. Would you trade (NETS)Vince Carter for (CAVS)Wally and 1st rounder
No. Teams may not show high interest in Carter, but I'm sure the Nets can get slightly more than Wally and a 1st rounder. Derrick Rose for Devin Harris?
Hell yes. He maybe be young and has lots to learn, but his passing ability is invaluable, as is his court vision, something you can't teach. Boone, Williams, First rounder for Marion?
Yea I would, just coz its going to make our team a legit playoff contender. we could start Marion at 4/5 Devin, Vc, Marion, Yi, Lopez sounds darn good. Kwame Brown + Jason Collins for Darko Milicic?
In a heartbeat. Milicic may not turn out to be a superstar, but he can definitely be a career 12 point/10 rebound/2 block guys...Collins gives you half of that and Kwame has 0 potential left. Tyson Chandler for Emeka Okafor and DJ Augustin?
Nope. NO is set at PG, and Tyson is Emeka on steroids. Raef+Rudy Fernandez+1 st for Vince Carter (argue both sides).
I'm really short on time but I had to answer this one. From Portland's perspective, I don't do it. They have Brandon Roy (who will play a lot of 1 as well), Bayless, Webster and Batum at the 2/3 positions. Now, VC could be just what they're looking for in terms of a veteran presence, but Fernandez is a veteran himself (from Europe) and VC would probably demand more minutes than him. Portland don't need VC, really, and having him could halt the development of Batum and Bayless. As for the Nets, I definitely do it. Fernandez is an awesome player, Portland's 1st could be in the low 20s and Raef is just another expiring contract.
