A kid I play basketball with died of heart faliure during a basketball tournament today. I will find you guys an article tomorrow when it hits the newspaper. He had a heart murmur which is actually pretty common and during his game he sat on the bench and collapsed. He died upon arrival at the hospital.Wow, This is getting crazy. A few weeks ago your playing basketball with somebody then a short time later they die. I wouldn't call him a friend but we see each other on the court pretty often. It's a shame to, He was the happiest guy on this planet. If you seen him without a smile on his face then you were lucky.Just thought I would share.Article:<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>A freshman player on Williamsport Area High School?s junior varsity basketball team died suddenly during a break in a scrimmage Saturday afternoon at the high school, according to the school?s head varsity basketball coach.Kyri Hall, who was on the school?s ninth-grade ?White Team,? played the first quarter of the scrimmage against State College and then sat down on the bleachers while his coach, Keith Davis, gave players instructions for the next quarter, head varsity basketball coach Allen Taylor, said Saturday night.?I honestly don?t know what happened,? Taylor said. ?I just turned and kinda saw him slumped over as if he was trying to lean on one of his teammates, but he just continued to lean down ... and he never recovered.?Taylor said a cause of death had not been determined ?at all,? but that paramedics were called to the scene.?He was hooked up to the defibrillator and everything,? Taylor said. ?The EMTs there were awesome, they did everything that they could have possibly done.?Hall lost consciousness sometime around 2:20 p.m., Taylor said, and was transported to the Williamsport Hospital.A nursing supervisor at the hospital Saturday evening said Hall had been there but she should could verify whether or not he was dead upon arrival.Attempts to contact County Coroner Charles E. Kiessling Jr. Saturday night were unsuccessful. Hall?s age, address and parent?s names were not available at press time Saturday.Taylor said that Hall?s teammates ?took it pretty hard? and that ?needless to say,? the scrimmage ended after the incident.?He was an awesome kid, an honor-roll student, hard-working and well liked by his peers,? he said. ?Everyone who came in contact with him admired the kid.?</div>
Dam....that sucks big time...I don't know what else to say except my heart goes out to him and his family.
Like I said while I was talking to you on aim, one minute you could be playing ball with someone and the next minute the person could be dead, thats why you got to live everyday like its your last.
This heart stuff seems to be happening all the time...It's scary because it's completely random and unexpected. :no1:
Damn, if I'm going to become a MMA Fighter I have to make sure I don't compete while injured. If someone can die from a chest pain by playing basketball, you'll definitely die in MMA.
Yeah, when I lived in Nebraska, I was good friends with a kid. Then I moved and last June he died in a car accident. :/
The same exact thing happened in my area. Except it was an older guy. There's tons of bball tournaments held in our 'center' - and it's all ages kinda thing. So, some guy, around 27 years old just collapses and has heart failure. This guy has like 3 kids and is married - it hit the community big time.
Did they do CPR and use an AED on him or just stand around and act stupid? It would be interesting to know.
I had a heart test run over the summer, and my heart is fine thankfuly. It's a good idea to get a test done before you start a season of sports. It's really reassuring, and it's a good thing to do. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family, and let the kid rest in peace..

Those kinds of things are scary. I want to know if the doctors told the family that something like this might happen at some point in time....It couldnt have been THAT unexpected.

This collapse had nothing to do with physical contact, his heart just couldn't take it. It's not like he got hit in the chest or something.
