In a year with so many high-level performers, I decided to go with three six-player teams incorporating an "ideal" sixth man on each squad. And I still left off some very good players.

Outstanding production, consistency, team success ? as well as being a game-changer ? were my criteria.

    First team
    Andrew Bogut, sophomore center, Utah
Sean May, junior forward/center, North Carolina
    Hakim Warrick, senior forward, Syracuse
Chris Paul, sophomore guard, Wake Forest
    J.J Redick, junior guard, Duke
Sixth man: Eddie Basden, senior forward, Charlotte

    Second team
    Wayne Simien, senior forward, Kansas
    Channing Frye, senior center, Arizona
    Shelden Williams, junior forward, Duke
Raymond Felton, junior guard, North Carolina
    Francisco Garcia, junior forward, Louisville
Sixth man: Kennedy Winston, junior forward, Alabama

    Third team
    Taylor Coppenrath, senior forward, Vermont
Craig Smith, junior forward, Boston College
Joey Graham, senior forward, Oklahoma State
    Adam Morrison, sophomore forward, Gonzaga
John Lucas, senior guard, Oklahoma State
Sixth man: Dee Brown, junior guard, Illinois

    PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Andrew Bogut, Utah. Sean May has closed the gap, though.

    COACHES OF THE YEAR

I can't choose just one because so many coaches did a terrific job considering the demands of the position.

Coaches in new places always face unique challenges in their first seasons. But Mark Fox of Nevada, Billy Gillespie of Texas A&M, Trent Johnson of Stanford, Chris Lowery of Southern Illinois and Thad Matta of Ohio State all distinguished themselves.

Other coaches who stood out to me were Jim Calhoun of Connecticut, Mike Davis of Indiana, Mark Few of Gonzaga, Mike Krzyzewski of Duke, Kelvin Sampson of Oklahoma, Tubby Smith of Kentucky, Bruce Weber of Illinois and Roy Williams of North Carolina.

    TOP FRESHMEN

    Daniel Gibson, guard, Texas
    Rajon Rondo, guard, Kentucky
    Martin Zeno, guard, Texas Tech
    Jordan Farmar, guard, UCLA
    Robert Vaden, guard/forward, Indiana
    D.J. White, forward, Indiana
    Marvin Williams, forward, North Carolina
    Glen Davis, forward, LSU
    Rudy Gay, forward, Connecticut
    Juan Palacios, forward, Louisville

    FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR

Marvin Williams, North Carolina. </div> Source
