The 22-year-old Hill, a native of Wilmington, Del., died Thursday when his car crashed in Estelle Manor Township, N.J. Hill had missed most of the 2002-03 season and all of last season with an injury but planned to play as a senior this fall, team officials said.

"Josh Hill was the inspirational leader of the men's basketball team," coach James Jones said. "His energy and attitude were major factors in our run to an Ivy League championship during the 2001-02 season. He had a great respect and love for children of all ages and had a strong involvement during Yale's youth day events."

According to a report in the News-Journal (Del.), Hill veered off the road while driving on route 637 in Estelle Manor Township and struck a bridge abutment at 3:28 a.m. ET. Hill was thrown from the vehicle, which came to a stop another 159 feet down the road. There were no witnesses to the accident, according to the paper.</div>
