Nady and Marte are fantastic players, and are both having great seasons. Unfortuneatley, we gave up one of my favorite prospects, Jose Tabata. Also in the trade were Ohlendorf and Coker. Trade is pending physicals.

I really hope someone fails it, but this is the best move for the team. Can't say I'm too ecstatic.

I hope Nady isn't have a fluke season.

Our BP is the best in the bigs. Dammit, we gave up Kontos? I heard the dude was sick.

I guess they've soured on Tabata. I'll still be rooting for him. He's just hit one dry patch of his career.

Surprising move by the Yankees. Marte and Nady are both solid pickups. Farnsworth has been very good recently, but how long could you expect it to last? Marte will help their bullpen a lot. And Nady will let Damon be a full time DH, and be able to spell Abreu in right as well. I'm surprised Pittsburgh didn't wait to try and get more for these guys.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Update: The final package from the Yankees is Ross Ohlendorf, Jose Tabata, Phil Coke, and George Kontos, according to multiple sources. Rotoworld is reporting a different set of prospects, including Austin Jackson, so I continue to follow this.</div>

If we lose Action Jackson, I'm crying bloody murder.

Nady and Marte are locked up through next season, and both are likely Type A FA, when they hit free agency.

Damn. Didn't see this. Can someone delete the other thread I made?

I think the Yankees did really well filling their needs and that Pittsburgh should have waited to get a little more. It's not like they HAD to get rid of these guys.

If they get Jackson and Tabata, the Pirates made the right move.

Our bullpen is the strongest point of this team. I love being able to say that now. Projected 2009 lineup:

    Damon (L) LF
    Jeter &reg; SS
    Cano (L) 2B
    A-Rod &reg; 3B
    Giambi (L) 1B
    Posada (S) C
    Matsui (L) DH
    Nady &reg; RF
    Melky (S) CF

Damn good lineup. Abreu's 16mil option isn't picked up, and leaves as a type A FA. We get 2 picks

I'm guessing this means you won't be trading for Randy Winn now. Damn.

This means no Barry Bonds. Thank god, I'd hate rooting for him.

Get the surgery, Posada. No room for you now.

The more I think about it, the more I realize how bad our luck was. If Tabata was healthy this year, we could have gotten much more.

Since I'm a Pirates fan and I just got back home, please break down for me what the Pirates are getting for giving up these two.

Great deal for us. Nady is an excellent righty in the order, and Marte will come in handy out of the bullpen. Well done, Brian Cashman.

Ross has filthy stuff, and just has to learn how to control it.
Tabata is a top OF prospect, 5 tools, but has had a down year, because of injury.
Kontos throws gas, and has a great slider. Needs to stay around the plate

I don't know enough about Coke to give a fair analysis, though he's put up great High-A numbers:

    Trade has been changed:
http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2008/07/26/brea...de-reconfigued/<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The Yankees are sending RHP Dan McCutchen, RHP Jeff Karstens, OF Jose Tabata and RHP Ross Ohlendorf to Pittsburgh for Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte.

LHP Phil Coke and RHP George Kontos are not in the deal.

Nady and Marte are on their way to Boston.

UPDATE, 11:57 p.m.: Once the teams decided on Tabata and Ohlendorf, the Pirates had a list of players to choose from. Coke and Kontos were on that list.

I don’t know enough about Coke to have an opinion on him. But I have watched McCutchen enough to know I think he had a chance to be pretty good. But it’s still a deal they have to make, both for this season and next.</div>

Some think this is better for the Pirates, I'm not too sure. McCutchen is good, but Karstens blows.
