RHP - Ivan Nova (4-4, 3.52 ERA) VS. LHP - David Price (11-4, 2.35 ERA) NOTE: Nova has not pitched past the 6th inning in his last 3 starts.
Nova has to be on his game and go at least 7 innings for the Yankees to have a chance to win the game tonight.
The Yanx have to take at least 2 of 3 from Toronto..... (talk about a Team hitting on all cylinders at the right time), exactly what the Jays have and are doing......but they can be had......!!
Thirty years ago today and yesterday I went to games at old Yankee Stadium numbers 2 and 3 of 4 with the Toronto Blue Jays. The Yankees had won game one to put them within two, but lost 2-4 putting them five games back. During that series Baylor couldn't hit a lick and Big Dave Winfield stranded something like 11 batters. Sure hope this series up in Toronto goes better. That '85 Yankee Team could Bop, old fans will remember the shirts Henderson, Winfield, Mattingly ect, ect, who needs pitching ah well the Yankees lost because of that lack. Bit of a similarity with this team a "jive five" of pitching.
That's now 31 straight innings without a run against the Blue Jays. It's a complete friggin joke at this point.
as well as any Mgr or Teams Nightmare as well. Yanx, 8 Hits, with 0 Runs... Jays, 4 Hits with 3 runs......WTF...... Perhaps we will see another surprise of a come back, (I know I'm wishing a bit deep)......but hell, will this Team please Surprise me or us all........??
Indeed, the Yanx of the 80s were a Fun Offensive Team to watch, with little Pitching to match their offense. In today's wild card crazy MLB world, its hard to imagine, the 85 Yanx with 97 Wins, sit out and watch the Royals win the ALCS..... In 85 the Yanx had a .606 Win Pctg., compared to the AL East Pennant Winners, the Jays with a 99 win season, a .615 Win Pctg, and the Royals (were the 3rd best AL team & WS Champs) with 91 Wins, and a .562 Win Pctg...... I recall reading a SI article around 87, (I believe it was); whereas the writer noted approximately 80% of Yanx games Won, were a direct result of the Teams Offense, not the Pitching........ Tho' I have no idea then or now, what Metrics SI used to determine how an Offense can provide any pctg. of Wins without quality SP's.......
at this point, it almost looks like the Jays hold the key to their own PS destiny, or AL pennant, and beyond.... In other words, I think only the Jays can beat themselves, ....
