"Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte appears to be a favorite to miss his scheduled start Tuesday at Detroit, after an MRI on Wednesday discovered inflammation in his left elbow.

But even as Pettitte was forced to leave early against the Orioles, at least the Yankees got some good news for members of the Core Four.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said he was "pretty positive" that closer Mariano Rivera would be available play Friday against the Red Sox. Rivera, who has been battling stiffness in his left side, said before the game on Wednesday that he'd be ready if needed. Girardi, as expected, did not pitch Rivera."
