By Tim Britton / MLB.com NEW YORK -- Brian Roberts had three hits and two RBIs in helping Brian Matusz beat the Yankees for the first time in four tries, 4-3, in the Bronx on Monday. Roberts burned A.J. Burnett with a pair of two-out RBI singles. His first in the fifth inning extended the Orioles' lead while his second in the seventh -- on a 2-1 curveball -- scored Corey Patterson from second to break a 3-3 tie. In his fourth start of the season against New York, Matusz finally earned his first victory over the Yankees. He tossed six innings of three-run ball, limiting the Bombers to five hits while striking out four. Burnett turned in another solid outing, albeit in a losing cause. Burnett allowed four runs on seven hits in seven innings. Although he issued four walks, Burnett prevented any of them from coming around to score. It was encouraging that, for the second consecutive outing, Burnett had good command of his curveball. He established it early, with six of his 11 pitches in the first being curveballs -- all of which were strikes. His control wavered a bit in the second with the hook, but he ended the day with all five of his strikeouts coming on the curve. New York's offense was powered by Alex Rodriguez, who in his second game back from the disabled list hit his first homer at Yankee Stadium in more than a month -- a long shot off the back of the visiting bullpen in left field. It was Rodriguez's first home run since he hit three in Kansas City on Aug. 14, and his first in the Bronx since his 600th homer on Aug. 4. Rodriguez added a sacrifice fly in the sixth to give him 100 RBIs on the season -- the 14th time in his career and 13th straight season he's reached triple digits. He is the first player in Major League history to drive in 100 in 14 different seasons.
Nice milestone by Alex. It's crazy to think that he got there this soon too, considering his average, OBP, slugging, OPS and HRs are all down from last year. And he's missed 24 games.
