RHP - Nathan Eovaldi, (5-1 4.16 ERA) VS. LHP - Gio Gonzalez, (4-3 4.57 ERA) Lineups to follow....... CF - Gardner 3B - Headley DH - Rodriquez 1B - Teixeira C - McCann RF - Beltran LF - Young 2B - Pirela SS - Ryan (Good to have this potent bat back in the lineup)
Flores sent down to make room for Ryan. Nova will make a AAA start shortly and then should be good to go.
Agree. And what is this garshdarn infatuation with Brendan Ryan? I don't care what Ryan does today with the bat...looking towards the immediate future and long haul, why couldn't GJM play Gregorious today AND GIVE PIRELA a start at 2b today? I believe Pirela is a "good" hitter and could be a very good hitting infielder. He's a free swinger and needs ABs to demonstrate this ability. Harms him to play very sporadically. The future lies much more so with Pirela than Brendan Ryan. Dump Ryan- Drew should be the "backup" SS giving DIdi a day off simultaneously giving Pirela playing time at 2b......and don't the Yanks have a day off tomorrow? Pirela....being a good hitter, IMO , could very well make a difference today. Just one of the "millions" of decisions a MGR makes during the course of a season.
My apologies, didn't realize Pirela WAS in the starting lineup. I still feel the same way regarding Pirela. I apologize to GJM. He did the right thing IMO, giving Pirela the start at 2b. Okay....nevermind.
I'd like to believe that if Ryan is hitting 150 & Pirela is producing when Ellsbury comes back that they would do the right thing.
Pathetic offensive performance today. Not to mention they can talk about Beltran raising his average but the guy is a singles hitter at this point. In key spots when you can use some power out of him he does nothing.
Not ridiculous for the Yanks to just release him and send him on his merry way. Part of the "budget".
Agree.....been disappointed with his overall production WHILE being "healthy". As of now, looks like he's lost ALOT since his last full healthy season. (2013 Cards). Disappointing indeed. Hopefully be somehow has a "good" 2nd half.
I agree Vic, 2 hits against a guy with an ERA near 5. As far as Beltran, I'd say the over/under of Beltran hitting a dozen homers this season would be under. And Eovaldi deserved better.
Yup, four homers from Beltran is pathetic. Chris Young has seven and Drew has nine for crying out loud. I'd like to see more of Garrett Jones in the lineup.
